         WEIMARANER RESCUE PROGRAM
        Rescuing Weimaraners since 1983!

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death.  We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion, gentle hands and kindly words.  Make us ourselves to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessing of the merciful.  Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)

                          I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly
and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to
know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly
of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to
and want to make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against
the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and
her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to
always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I
was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

IN 2006, WE PLACED 17 RESCUE WEIMARANERS IN LOVING HOMES
I
N 2007 WE PLACED 28 Rescue Weimaraners IN LOVING HOMES.
IN 2008 we  placed
54 Rescue dogs!
WHAT WILL BE THE NUMBER IN 2009 ?   we need foster homes!

The vast majority of Weimaraners in Rescue Programs come from irresponsible breeding by back yard breeders and puppy mills trying to make money off their unfortunate dog prisoners.  PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!  They prey on uneducated people with cheap prices and often unhealthy dogs (physically and mentally) They try to dupe the unsuspecting public about "rare blue" Weimaraners - these are just dogs deliberately bred (one parent must be blue or black) with a dilute black gene and it is a disqualifying fault in the Weimaraner Club of America. NO ETHICAL BREEDER BREEDS BLUE WEIMARANERS!

Also, NOTE: if the breeders say their pups are not AKC registered because of some weird reason RUN!  This means AKC has inspected them and because their operation was substandard, they can no longer register pups with AKC!  Often they make up some story about how they "dont use AKC because they support something or other" but the truth is they are BANNED BY AKC!!  The "puppy mill registries" do not inspect any of the slime operations and will register anything that pays the fee.

He plays very well with my male Weim, and is sweet to him and to everyone.  He loves to run and play so an active family would be good for him

Scout - a very sweet little boy- still available

5/13/09 YOUNG WEIM PUPS IN CHARLESTON, SC.   SCOUT,  is one of 3 pups who are probably ~8 months old and likely came from a puppy mill.  They have long tails and their dewclaws.  They had not been socialized.  We have them in foster homes and we are working to socialize them. They were turned in to the shelter in terrible condition - bad coats, extremely underweight (racks of bones), dehydrated and had to have fluids.  They are now on excellent food and gaining  weight.   Since they are young, it should not take long.  They were terrified of humans.  We hold them and pet them, trying to build their confidence in humans.  They play well with other dogs.  They will be spayed/neutered on 6/17.     Scout is the largest of the 3 pups.

Adoption fee is $350.

6/10/09 Update: All 3 pups are doing great!  They are gaining confidence and loving all the attention and good food.  All have gained weight, are glad to see us every day and love to go on walks on the flexi lead.

Scout is the largest of the 3, has a beautiful face and is still available. His foster mom is Barbara Glover  bb.glover@yahoo.com  or 843-425-0895

Would you like to know what the "AKC Puppy mills" do to their "breeding stock"?  They breed them every season until they die or cannot produce puppies anymore.  Then they dump them on the side of the road or at the shelters.   We see this frequently.  Some have NEVER been touched by a kind human.  They are noosed, bred, their pups taken and they are then kicked out in the yard again, rarely with any shelter, and food thrown to them on the ground.

Sadly, we have had to euthanize some of them because they are so terrified of humans that they cannot ever be adopted.  Please do NOT buy from puppy mills!

How can you tell if it is a Puppy Mill?  LOOK AROUND!  If there are three or more dogs bring bred, 3 or more different breeds - RUN!

THE FOLLOWING DOGS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED INTO LOVING HOMES - THANK YOU!!

HAPPY ENDINGS FOR OUR FORMER RESCUE WEIMS

THANKS TO THE LOVING FAMILIES WHO ADOPTED THESE RESCUE DOGS

20  At the shelter         After KatieMalone cleaned and fixed him up 6/5/09 ADOPTED! 6/4/09 LEONARDO. (previously known as Manley) was turned in to the Greenville shelter (also said that Animal control took him from owner due to neglect) by "owner" and said to be 5 yrs old.  We found out later that he will be 13 yrs this year.  Previous owners wanted to put him down in January 09.  But a "friend" took him.  He was in horrible condition.  His last vet visit he weighed 65 lbs.  He now weighs about 35.  He had been hurt and neglected.  What kind of friend would do this to a sweet old dog?  Thanks to Katie Malone for pulling him from the Greenville shelter, finding out about his previous life and patching him up.  And, thanks to Dan Blakely for telling his brother, Claude who adopted Leonardo to allow him to live out the rest of his days at a lovely  home on Lake Greenwood.

New name is Manfred and here he is at Claude Blakely's home:

19     5/12/09 ADOPTED! 2/10/09 LOCATED IN SENECA, SC (45 mi West of Greenville) Josie is a 7 yr old female. She has a very gentle temperament, but is a little shy. She is an excellent housedog that would get along with other dogs well but  not cats. She has been shown and is trained to hunt.  She travels well and is also crate trained. Her mother is Ch. Smoke's Hifalutin Grea Lady JH, sire is Globemasters Jolly St. Nick. SD,NSD,SH,V.

17 & 18     5/10/09 ADOPTED! 4/14/09 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC.  Brooklyn and Benson have been together for 6 yrs.

Benson is a 7 yr old neutered male.  He gets along with other dogs, cats and kids.  he is up to date on shots and hw prevention.  He is housebroken and crate trained.

Brooklyn is a 6 yr old spayed female.  she gets along with other dogs, cats and kids.  she is up to date on shots and hw prevention.  she is housebroken and crate trained.

Reason for putting them up for adoption: He had the two Weims before he met his wife.  She had the beagle mix.  they just had a baby 9-10 months ago and the dogs aren't getting the attention like they used to and the beagle likes to dig out of the yard and Benson follows.  They aren't getting the exercise they need, are typical weims and have lots of energy.   He said they are well behaved but need more attention and  more exercise

They have been together for the last 6 yrs and the owner would like to try and place them together.   I know its going to be really hard to place them together but thought it was worth a shot.

16  4/6/09 ADOPTED!  4/1/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Jaxon" is a beautiful, 4 yr old, neutered, HW neg male.  He was well cared for in a loving home but had to be given up due to the economy (family lost jobs and cannot sell home, etc).  He is up to date on vaccines and is AKC reg.  He a very sweet affectionate boy, gets along well with other dogs, loves to play and will make someone a fabulous family member.  His adoption fee is $250.  Jaxon was adopted by a loving family!

15   3/27/09 ADOPTED! 3/23/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. "Polly" is a 7 month old, spayed, female puppy who was obtained by a family from a bad breeder.  She has an undocked tail and front dewclaws.  The family reported that she was left to run with another dog in a junk yard for the first 4 months of her life and not socialized.  She is afraid of humans. They bought her because they felt so bad for her living conditions.   The  family donated Polly to our Rescue program because they did not know how to deal with her fear issues.  Polly loves other dogs but either was abused or neglected while at the puppy mill.  She needs intensive human contact which she is now receiving.  She would do fine in a family with another dog, but needs lots of human contact to build her confidence and overcome her fear of humans.  She would do best with a stay at home Mom or Dad and another dog.  Her adoption fee is $350.

3/24/09 - update: Polly is walking on a lead well and comes into the house.  She is still afraid of new situations.  However, if I sit down on the ground, she will come up to me and let me pet her and give her a treat.   I am able to get her to stand up on lead while petting her.
New name is Betty!

14    3/13/09 ADOPTED! 3/2/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Henry" is a  ~4 month old male puppy who was rescued from a puppy mill in GA by a young couple.  However, Henry had been kept in a cage without human contact and is afraid of humans. The puppy mill  owner didn't want him because he was too old to sell so he was given to the couple.  They turned him over to our Rescue program because they did not know how to deal with his fears and certainly didnt want him to go back to that hell hole.   He needs rehabilitation and socialization.  He will hopefully become a normal little boy puppy within a few weeks at which time he will be available for adoption.

3/3/09- Update:  In 24 hrs, Henry is noticeably improving. He goes on long walks with me and lets me hold and pet him.  He loves my other Weims and sleeps with my 6 month old at night. However, he must be kept on a leash because he is still very afraid of being approached by me.   He is teething, appears to be 4 months old and I believe he will likely be a small adult.

3/6/09 - Henry now comes and goes without a leash.  I put a drag line on him when we go out for walks, but he is now glad to see me and likes being held and petted.  He can now sleep in his own room without another dog. My  6 month old loves to hold his leash when we walk around the pond.

3/11/09 Henry is spending a lot of time in the house, is crate trained and is now an official "snuggle bunny".  He is still a little timid with new situations, but otherwise is pretty much a normal sweet little Weimaraner boy.

He needs a family who will spend some time loving him and building his confidence.

13  3/6/09 ADOPTED! 2/24/09 LOCATED IN THE COLUMBIA, SC AREA. Violet, is a 7 month old female, spayed will all vaccines. Violet is a verysweet, intelligent, small, young girl. She has been raised with 3 small children and is very careful and delicate with her mouth with people.Violet still needs work on crate training and like with all puppies, guidance on proper things to chew. She will do best with an "At-home" Mom
or Dad. She also loves to play with other dogs.

12  3/6/09 ADOPTED!  3/1/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Solomon" is a large, handsome, friendly, very sweet 4 yr old, blue, neutered male.  He weighs about 100 lbs.  His owner sadly experienced difficult financial issues after the death of his wife, had to move out of state and could not keep him.  He has been well cared for; vet records available.  He has been living with a friend of the family for a few months and loves children, is housebroken, and is obedient.  He plays nicely with little children and small dogs.   No cats. He loves to play tug of war with rope toys and towels.   He would make a great family member for an active family who like to hike, run, play on the beach, and especially to play with another dog.

11    3/2/09 ADOPTED! 3/1/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "Spencer" is a 4 month old  adorable, intact male puppy who has been in 3 different homes by people who were clueless about Weimaraner puppies.  He needed  leash training and corrections about jumping up (which we continue to work on), and play biting (this was solved) but he is a typical Weim puppy.  He loves to play, sits on command and is a very friendly little boy.   Spencer needs to go to a home with a fenced in yard and not left alone crated for more than 4 hrs in the day.  He specifically needs to go to obedience class.  He will make a wonderful family pet with appropriate training.  His adoption fee is $350 plus $150 = $500.  At a later age, when proof of neutering is received, the $150 will be refunded.   His new name is Fletcher!

10 ADOPTED! 2/10/09 LOCATED IN SENECA, SC (45 mi West of Greenville) Cruz is a neutered 6 yr old male.  He's a very sweet and goofy male that would make someone a great dog. He is a great house dog, has been shown and is trained to hunt.  He would do best with females.  He travels well and is crate trained. His mother is CH Smoke's Hifalutin Grea Lady JH, sire is Ch. LIberty's Good Will Hunting.

9  ADOPTED! 1/31/09 LOCATED IN CAYCE, SC (NEAR COLUMBIA)  "HEIDI" is an approx 16-19 month old female picked up by the Lexington Animal Control.  She is friendly, smart and obedient.  She is trained to sit and lie down.  She comes when called.  Her foster dad is giving her some obedience lessons and working on getting weight on her.   She is OK with indoor cats; but will chase them outside (typical of Weim behavior). She is good with other dogs. She is now spayed and ready for a new home.

8 2/14/09 ADOPTED!! 1/23/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.   "BITZY" - this is a pitiful, small female who is a "bred and thrown away" girl.  She  was recently bred, her puppies taken and then she was dumped by some low life.  She was sick and her coat was in terrible condition.  She badly needed some TLC and is now being loved and nurtured by Barbara Glovers family.  Bitsy is scheduled to be spayed the last week of January.  When she is ready she will be posted. This photo was taken at the shelter when she was sick.  We will post her more recent photos in the coming weeks.  Bitzy is doing really well now.

7    1/29/09 ADOPTED! 1/16/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. "Carrie" is a 3-4 yr old, grey, spayed girl who was picked up as a stray and not claimed.  She is  heartworm negative, calm, very sweet, friendly, gets along with other dogs.  She also is leash broken, does fine in a crate and is a wonderful, well behaved house dog.  It is hard to believe anyone would give up such a nice girl. Carrie will make a great family member for a lucky family!

6    1/21/09 ADOPTED! 12/17/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC      "Emma" is a very pretty, 4 yr old spayed girl, up to date on all vaccines, heartworm neg.  She had to be given up by her family due to difficult financial times.  Emma can shake, sit, play dead.  She lived with a toy breed and gets along well with an obnoxious 4 month old puppy and other dogs.  She is very friendly and is an excellent housedog.  She will make a wonderful family pet.

5   1/23/09 ADOPTED! 1/9/09 LOCATED IN FRANKLIN, NC (NEAR  HIGHLANDS, NC )Turbo  is a 1 yr old, neutered grey male, up to date on all vaccines and Heartworm negative.  He has been well cared for but his owner must give him up due to no time for him because of kids and husband has been sent to Iraq.

Owner says: He has been crate trained and house broken.  He is a loving dog always wanting to be near and lay with you.   He goes to the door when needs to go out and the same to come in. He is pretty much an indoor dog and does very well.  I believe he is past the chewing stage, although I keep him supplied with rawhides to keep busy. He has a automatic feeder and does well with it with 80lb continuous weight.  I bought him for my husband on valentines day last year, but my husband is now located in IRAQ for a year or two and we are looking to sell and move to Wilmington, NC or Charleston, SC to be back with family. It has been alot for me and having two boys to keep up with to give him the attention he needs.  I feel I am neglecting him for the attention and space he needs to get his energy out. I hope to find a good loving home for him and believe he will adjust very well.  So if you are able to help me I will be truly grateful and happy that he is in a good home with a fenced yard.

4     1/17/09 ADOPTED! 12/30/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. AMOS is a 7 yr old Blue neutered male up to date on all his shots. He was found tied to a tree starving in the upstate. A kind neighbor took him from the low lives who were mistreating him and gave him to a volunteer in our rescue program who brought him to his foster home in Charleston.
Amos is one of the most friendly, laid back Weims I have ever seen. His tail wags constantly.  Although he is a rack of bones, he eats well and we feed him 5 small meals a day to try to put the weight back on. He just seems to be thankful for life! He loves all other dogs and all people. He walks into every situation with a happy attitude.  He loves to run in the yard with other dogs and carry a ball or dummy.  He acts as if he would like to swim but doesnt know how yet.  By the summer, if given an opportunity, I believe he would be a great swimmer.

Update 1/12/09: Amos has gained weight, looks  & feels much better!  He is playing with other dogs and having a great time running around our farm. He will make a wonderful family pet.   New name Ranger - here he is the day he was adopted by the Nelson family.

3   1/16/08 ADOPTED! 12/27/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC Savanna is 5yrs. old, AKC registered, spayed and up to date on her shots.  She is a very active dog, knows how to catch a frisbee, swim after one and retrieve.  She needs someone who can devote time to her with exercise.  I use to do this but I now have a new baby (human) and an older weimie that I am successfully managing.   Please help me find a good home for her.

2 1/1/09 ADOPTED! 12/17/08 LOCATED IN CASHIERS, NC Belle is a 4 year old spayed female  who is very affectionate.  Her owner passed away this year and she is looking forward to a loving family.  She is current with all her shots.  Belle has spent most of her time inside although she appreciates a fenced in yard.  She loves taking daily long walks and chasing sticks. Belle is leash trained and will make a great family addition.  She has wonderful manners and is an excellent house dog.

1 1/4/09 ADOPTED! 12/30/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC NICHOLAS is a 2 1/2 yr old male, neutered grey Weim who was picked up as a stray in Charleston.  He was nearly starved to death.  After neutering and vetting he was taken into our rescue program.  Barbara Glover and her family love this dog.  He is a friendly, tail wagging, happy boy who loves everyone.  He loves to play with kids, play tug of war, ball, etc.  He is a fairly large, lanky boy.  She is currently leash training him and putting weight on him.  He will make a lucky family a wonderful addition.

2008 - 54 Happy Endings!  OUR APPRECIATION TO THE 54 FAMILIES WHO
ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING DOGS IN 2008

54 12/29/08 ADOPTED! 12/17/08 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  Cosmos must be given up because his owner died and the widow cannot afford to keep him anymore.   Here is what she says about him:  Cosmos is a 7 yr old neutered male who loves to run and play.  His owner passed away this year and he really misses having a guy in his life.  He is current with all his shots and is looking for someone to love. He is a big loving fellow.  Cosmos is leash trained.  He loves daily hikes and has spent most of his time inside although he appreciates an outside fenced in yard. Cosmos is great with other dogs, has wonderful manners and is a fabulous house dog.

53 12/24/08ADOPTED! 12/17/08 LOCATED IN THE COLUMBIA, SC AREA GUNNER IS READY FOR A NEW HOME!! Gunner is a wonderful boy who has now recovered from a terrible situation

11/5/08 Gunner's story:  We now have a very heartbreaking case of Gunner who was neglected by his mentally ill owner.  When the owner's mother discovered poor little Gunner's condition, he was taken to the Charleston shelter and the owner was taken to a mental health facility. The Shelter called us and now he is on his way to his foster home in Cayce, SC.  He will need some TLC and time to recover and then we will offer him for adoption. He is about 4- 5 years old, weighs ~ 51 pounds, and is neutered. Obedience trained, knows sit, shake, kennel up, and plays fetch. He is a very sweet boy.

11/8 - First update from his foster home:

"Gunner is the sweetest dog I have fostered.  This is the kind of dog you don't offer to the general public, but instead tell your friend who has been waiting for a year or two for a really special dog. He acts like a littermate with my 4 yr old male.  They spent the day competing for a ball thrown down the hill and split returns about 70% my dog.  At one point I've seen them one with the ball and the other trying to take the ball out of the other's mouth.  No hostility.  Two males knowing each other for 2 days.  I know my dog is ok with fosters, but Gunner is great."

52   12/808 ADOPTED!! 12/5/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Benny was picked up as a stray in the Georgetown area.  He is underweight and has certainly been neglected.  I don't think he has ever lived inside before.  He loves his soft bed and good food.  He is a small male about 14 months old and weighs 50 lbs.  He needs some TLC.  Benny is very sweet, friendly, loves to play with my 4 month old puppy.  He is microchipped,  neutered and up to date on all vaccinations.  He will make someone a wonderful family pet.

51 12/5/08 ADOPTED! 10/10/08 LOCATED NEAR MYRTLE BEACH, SC. Our loving Weimaraner, Sophie,  is a 3 yr old, spayed,  sweet dog, very loyal, fun to be around, very pretty. She has gone through basic training at the canine command center and as long as she gets the attention and exercise she needs is obedient. She needs owner (s) that will be sure she gets daily exercise, good attention, and limited kid contact.   Good with other dogs, but not cats.  She is also a good watchdog.  Current on all shots & very healthy.

Sophie is being fostered by her owners.

50        11/21/08 ADOPTED! 11/12/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Bonnet" is a really pretty, fairly large Blue girl who appears to be about 1 yr old.   She was sent to us by the Marion Animal Shelter where she had been turned in by her owner. She was likely thrown in someone's back yard and ignored. She is very friendly and  playful but territorial with food.  She needs obedience training.  We are working on stopping her from jumping up and mouthing hands.   She LOVES to play ball!  Bonnet will make a fantastic family companion ONLY if she is worked with and taken to obedience classes.  Bonnet is very smart and  learns fast, but needs a firm hand to teach her manners.

49   11/20/08 ADOPTED!! 8/19/08 LOCATED IN THE GREENVILLE, SC AREA: Sully is a neutered male about 18 months old.  He is heart worm negative and up to date on all of his shots.  He was found on the steps of a church with another male and a female Weimaraner.  Animal control was called and all three went to the Lexington Animal Shelter.  Sully was underweight and was pretty beat up.  He made a nice recovery and will make a GREAT companion.  He gets along very well with my two females and would do best in a home with another dog.  He has become a shadow to me and to the two girls.  Like most Weimaraners, he will chase cats, so no homes with cats.

He is a very friendly, happy boy and likely would do fine with kids.

Sully is housebroken and crate trained.   Like all Weims at this age, he should not be left alone loose in the house as he will counter surf and find something to take away his boredom.  However, he does fine in the house if you are there and will even sleep (all night) on your bed.

48    11/24/08 ADOPTED! 11/8/08 LOCATED IN CASHIERS, NC Sallie was found wandering recently around Gorges State Park in Transylvania County, NC with a piece of retractable lead attached to an old collar. She is around 2 years old, playful, affectionate, and willing to please. Sallie is housebroken and gets on very well with the two male dogs in my household in Cashiers, NC. She knows "sit" and "drop" and is learning to walk on a leash with the other dogs.

45    11/8/08 ADOPTED! 10/3/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "DEEDEE"  is an approximately 4 yr old, grey spayed female. All shots up to date and heartworm negative.  We believe she has had a hard past life and likely mistreated.

Deedee is a sweetheart, LOVES to cuddle, carry her stuffed toys around, and  is a VERY calm, nice girl who will make a wonderful pet for a loving family.   Although  she is very quiet in the house and not much of a barker, she will bark at anything suspicious outside so she is a good watch dog too.  She is very obedient, wants to please, is a great house dog and is SO thankful to have a nice bed, toys, good food and people to hug and pet her.   She loves to be petted and is such a pleasure to have in the house.   We will have a hard time giving her up!

Deedee did tree a possum in our yard, so probably no cats.

Please find Deedee a loving home!

44    11/7/08 ADOPTED!  10/19/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Quincy" is an approximate 3-4 yr old male who was abandoned when his family was evicted from a foreclosure on their house.  A kind neighbor bought him for $50 and donated him to our Rescue Program.  He is a large, very handsome, friendly male weighing approximately 85 lbs.  He is very playful and exuberant.  He should go to a family who will take him to obedience classes.  Quincy loves to fetch a ball and loves to swim!  He retrieves well from land and water.  He plays well with our female dogs of all breeds.

Quincy has been neutered and is Heartworm negative, he is up to date on all vaccines.  He will do well with an active family who can jog or hike with him.  So far, he does not seem to have any bad habits such as digging, jumping fences or barking.

43  11/4/08 ADOPTED! 8/19/08 LOCATED IN WAYNESBORO, GEORGIA.  Savannah is our 4 year old loving female.  She is up to date on all of her shots, has been on heart-guard since required, and was just spayed on 08/14/08. This is a very somber time for me and my husband, but we feel that it may be in the best interest for Savannah. We have another Weim, Sallie. We refer to the two as "our girls". We started out with an underground fence that they figured out.  She likes to get out and run and play.   We just cannot seem to keep her in our yard.

This why we must give her up.

Savannah needs a family with people who stay at home and will give her the attention she loves.  Or, this girl needs someone to jog with, walk with, hike with, swim with and let her be the active girl she wants to be!

Savannah is being fostered by her owners.

42 10/25/08 ADOPTED! 10/15/08 LOCATED IN  ANDERSON, SC (NEAR GREENVILLE) Jackson  is  3 1/2 years old  neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and up-to-date on all shots.  He weighs about  85lbs and is  tall  & lean. He LOVES to be outside, but only to play....he is a total inside, cuddling, couch potato Weimaraner!  He also loves to play fetch (with anything...even pine cones), go on walks, jogs and any activities outside where he can be with his owner.  He is always happy and ready to love and be loved!  He is completely house trained, but like most Weims will counter surf and trash can dive if given the opportunity.  He was crate trained as a puppy but has been free to roam when left home alone for the last 1 1/2 years, but still feels safe in his crate if he needs to be there.  He is good with other dogs but better with females, and has no issues with cats.  He needs a fenced in yard with lots of room and time to play daily, he also loves lots of attention! He will sit, speak, lay, roll over and shake for anything edible...especially banana and peanut butter!

Jackson's owners had to move and could not take him.  They are broken hearted and want to find a wonderful home for him.

41   10/20/08 ADOPTED! 10/6/08 LOCATED IN HILTON HEAD, SC Heidi  is a  3 yr old female.  This girl was living in Olar, South Carolina.  She lived in a pen in the back yard.  She is very shy.  She likes other dogs and does not appear to be cat aggressive.  After working with her for three days she will come to me.  I have been working on teaching her some simple manners.  She is learning to walk on a leash and to sit.  She is very sweet.  She has been spayed and is heartworm negative.  I hope with the right family who understands her, she can enjoy the life she deserves. In 10 days Heidi has come a long way!  She will now put her head in my lap and wags her tail when I put her leash on.  In order for her to finish her healing, she needs a home!  I can only give her one hour a day and she needs more.  She is gentle and loves other animals.  Can anyone find it in their heart to open their home to this sweet girl?

40  10/19/08 ADOPTED!! 9/19/07 LOCATED BETWEEN GREENVILLE & SPARTANBURG:  "Harry" is approx. 7 years old, Gray, Neutered, sweet natured house dog. Current on all shots, and on heartworm prevention. He is housebroken, crate-trained.  He is fine with children,  but he will chase cats. Harry's type of home would be someone with  a big yard so he could run and play outside during the day and be a housedog  at night or someone who can play with him or can take him for walks/runs regularly.  Harry would be great for an active family who can give him exercise, obedience training and attention. Harry is being fostered by his owner. Please consider giving Harry a good home.

negative.  He seems to love the water and love people.  And he really likes to lay on your lap on the couch!  Bishop will need obedience training to
learn to walk well on a lead but his great attitude should make training a pleasure.

38 10/8/08 ADOPTED! 10/6/08 LOCATED IN HILTON HEAD, SC Winston is a neutered male 5 years old.  He has also been living in a pen on Olar, SC.  He was lucky enough to have had a year in another home in the beginning of his life and is better socialized than Heidi.  He likes people and other dogs.  He is like a bull in a china shop at present.  He is being taught to walk on a leash, sit, down and come when called.  Winston is overweight and has been put on a diet.  He will make someone a great companion

36 10/1/08 ADOPTED!  9/21/08 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC (On the border between NC/SC about 25 min north of Spartanburg)

Name: BocaAge: 11  months Weight: 89 lbs

Boca is an energetic puppy who is a quick learner. He has a very sweet personality. He is learning to ride in the car, heel and walk nicely on a leash. He gets along well with other dogs and is relatively gentle for a big puppy. He is a bit clumsy so would not recommend him for families with small children. Boca loves to run on trails.  He is housebroken but has not had to opportunity to run free in the house  without supervision. During the day he stays in a dog run because he strongly dislikes being in a crate. Boca has not been with cats but believe that with a little training he would be fine. Boca needs someone who is going to spend time working with him. Previous Weim ownership is a plus. This is not the kind of dog you get that is going to be perfect immediately. He is a PUPPY! He deserves a family that will exercise him and love him.

Boca has been neutered, heartworm tested (negative) and updated on all his shots.

32 9/22/08 ADOPTED!! 8/25/08 LOCATED IN FLORENCE, SC Barney is a very sweet, grey  boy about 18 months old. He loves to play with other dogs, male and female. I have not found anyone he does not like, adults or children, with the exception of Cats. He will need to go to a home with no cats. He came to me from Second Chance Rescue. Second Chance found him in a very bad situation (covered in fleas and ticks etc.). We will not go into the etc. part it is too heartbreaking.  He was found to have Lyme Disease and is Heart worm positive. He has been treated and recovered from the Lyme Disease.  He was started on the heart worm treatment this weekend.  (Barney is the companion to Pebbles; they were both seized by Animal control for neglect and were in horrible shape).

Barney is a sweet adorable boy; he is neutered and housebroken - he goes  to the door to indicate he wants to go outside, but you have watch for it. He just craves affection; poor little guy, I don't think he has had that before. It is amazing how he came from such a bad situation and can still be so friendly and loving. He will be a great addition to a loving family.

PLEASE find a forever loving home for this sweet little guy!

31 9/21/08 ADOPTED!  8/18/08 LOCATED IN SENECA, SC. My name is Rosie, I am a young ~ 14 month old Weimaraner female. I was rescued from the Greenville Humane Society by the Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club. I was a frightened young girl, very malnourished, skin and bones and with a raging skin infection from fleas and poor nutrition. I had been living on the streets for too long!

I am now spayed and up-to-date on all vaccinations, have put on some weight, and my coat is getting thick and shiny.

I have adapted to my foster home and family. I get  along well with another Weimaraner in my foster home, Campbell, and a terrier/hound mix, Zac. We all share toys and beds. I am lease trained, and learning some basic obedience. I enjoy rides in the car, chasing squirrels in the backyard, going on walks in the neighborhood, and giving cuddles and kisses. I get on very well with children and other dogs (but not cats). I have moved from a wild, street dog to a gentle, family dog, Plus, I think I would be great at hunting and tracking with some training. I am a very sweet, loving girl looking for a family to love me in return.

My adoption fee through the Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club is $250, and that includes spaying, microchipping, and all vaccinations and any medications to date.

Please give me a forever home!

30 9/14//08 ADOPTED! 8/17/08 LOCATED BETWEEN COLUMBIA AND AIKEN, SC. Blue is an approximately 20 month old male. He was found running with two other Weims when picked up by Lexington Animal Control. He is neutered and has had all his vaccines. He is heartworm positive but under treatment. Blue is extremely sweet. His main goal in life is to please humans. He has the usual amount of energy for a 20 month old Weim but it is easily controlled with verbal commands due to his pleasing nature. He is good with other dogs. He would probably chase cats, however, (if they run from dogs) due to his love to chase things that roll or run. He is housebroken. He does not seem to jump up on people so far. He just sits at your feet and looks up at you with eyes begging to be loved.

29 9/5/08 ADOPTED! LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Pebbles" (we named her) is an adorable probably 16-18 month old grey female.  She was seized along with a male companion (Barney above) - likely her litterbrother - by Animal Control and taken to the Second Chance Rescue in Florence, SC because they were being badly neglected (both were starving).  The low life stated  "they don't need nothin' but a chain, water and a food bowl. " Sigh..... In spite of her sad previous life, Pebbles is very loving, friendly and once we get her in good shape, she will be just beautiful!  Her eyes are almost blue.  She is very underweight (46 lbs) and needs good nutrition. She is a small female, friendly, affectionate, happy girl who loves everybody.   She learned to swim and retrieves from our pond,  she points,  loves to retrieve a ball or toy and enjoys her rawhide chews. Amazingly, Pebbles will now swim over 30 yards in the pond and retrieve a dummy to hand!  She will make a fantastic dog for some lucky family!!

Update 8/28: Pebbles has been to the vet,  now weighs 53 lbs, has been vaccinated, is HW negative and in good health. She is in heat now and will be spayed afterwards.   She comes when called, sits on command, is crate trained, & housebroken.  She would make a great Agility dog.

28 8/25/08 ADOPTED! 7/30/08 LOCATED IN THE ATLANTA, GA AREA. Emma is a   7 yr old, spayed, wonderful family dog whose family must move to the Middle East and she cannot go with them.  They are broken hearted but must find another home for her.  Here is her information:

Champion bloodlines.  Recent physical: perfect health, Family dog, Sweet tempered, very social, House dog (crating not necessary, can leave for hours without incident), Enjoys running at the river, playing fetch, Great watch dog. Reason for adoption, family moving to Mid East

27  ADOPTED! 8/8/08.  BONNIE is now Grayce.  She was adopted by Jerry Jester and his family in Augusta, GA

26 7/30/08 ADOPTED!   7/27/08  LOCATED IN SIMPSONVILLE, SC.  "BAILEY" is an adorable 14 wk old Blue, intact male puppy.  He was abandoned at a trailer park when the owners were evicted.  The owner of the trailer park called us and he was taken into our rescue program.  He is healthy, with an excellent temperament.

25  7/11/08 ADOPTED! 7/6/08 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC (NEAR GREENVILLE, ASHEVILLE) Duke is a 4 year old blue Weim. He came to me 3 years ago with mange, starving and with heart worms. He has since undergone treatment for the heartworm and mange and is a beautiful healthy dog with wonderful manners. He is a gentleman’s dog. He is very obedient and heels nicely on and off the leash. He enjoys running and has a special talent for hunting turtles. Yes, he sniffs out turtles and brings them to me without injuring them. He is currently living with 6 other Weims which he does ok with but in a perfect world he would be an only dog. He loves going for walks and playing ball. He stays outside in a fenced in area or in a dog run during the day and sleeps inside in a crate at night.

Duke came to me from Arkansas. A woman there had passed away and had left 14 dogs behind. Supposedly her boyfriend was talking care of them but based on Duke’s behavior upon arrival he had been abused.  Because of this I think Duke would do best in a family with no children or older children because he does tend to get scared easily. Duke would make someone a wonderful friend because he wants nothing more to please and be loved. The right family for Duke is a must. While I love this dog I have recued and rehabilitated him to the best of my ability. It is time for him to have a family and for me to make room for another.

Duke is up to date on Shots, heartworm prevention and Advantage Plus

24 7/8/08 ADOPTED!! 7/6/08 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC (NEAR GREENVILLE, ASHEVILLE) Smokey is a 2 year old neutered male. He is about 100 lbs of pure love and happiness. He is very energetic and is a wonderful running partner (3-6 miles). He heels nicely off the leash but will also walk nicely on the lead. He has had basic obedience training and loves to jump agility jumps or horse jumps (more his size). He is house broken and will “go to bed” on command but he gets excited when initially let into the house. He is crate trained where he sleeps at night and stays inside a fence in the yard during the day without a problem. He is a little clumsy but is very  sweet. Like most Weims he is strong willed and will need an owner who can command respect.

Smokey’s owner died almost a year ago and he was inherited by her son who boarded him in a kennel where is was kept in a crate with no walks or exercise for 3 weeks before I rescued him. He had literally chewed his tail off and had to undergo surgery to cover the exposed bone. He still nips at it when he is nervous but it has healed nicely. He has been in my care for 7 months living with 6 other Weims. He is at an age where he needs to bond with someone. He is a wonderful, sweet dog who needs a Weim savvy family to give him the love and attention he deserves.

He is up to date on shots and is on heartworm protection and Advantage Plus.

Home must have fenced in yard, time to exercise and love to give. I will keep Smokey until I find him the home he deserves. References will be required and checked.

23   ADOPTED 7/5/08! 5/14/08 LOCATED IN SENECA, SC  HISTORY : "ROSIE" (previously "EUROPA") A PITIFUL 1 YR OLD FEMALE PUPPY, HW POS AND IN BAD SHAPE  found as a stray and obtained from the Greenville County Animal Shelter. We have her now in her foster home with Cassie Welsh in Seneca, SC.  Initial evaluation: She is spayed.  She is a sweet, frightened, young bitch, with a raging skin infection and very malnourished.   Cassie will be taking her to her vet for analysis and hopefully, with good food, meds and TLC she will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. Photos will be posted as soon as she is in better shape.

5/22 Update: Rosie is really sweet and loves to play with other dogs.  She has been treated for her skin & flea infections andher coat is clearing up;
she is up to date on vaccines and is being treated for HW.  Currently, she tries to jump or climb fences  to get with her "person" but this is being resolved.

5/29: Update: Rosie is a happy, affectionate young bitch who is adapting to her foster home and family. She gets on well with my Weim, Campbell and terrier mix  Zac, and they all share toys and beds. Rosie is gaining weight, getting used to a leash, collar and check chain, and learning some basic obedience and manners. She enjoys rides in the car, chasing squirrels in the backyard, going on walks in the neighborhood, and giving cuddles and kisses. Everyone who meets her comments on her friendly temperament and beauty (despite her somewhat patchy coat at this time). We are working on changing her from a wild, street dog to a gentle, family dog.  She will make someone a wonderful dog!

6/20/08: Update: she is housebroken, much better behaved indoors, very social on our walks and visits, good with kids and adults and other dogs, and so sweet and loving and loyal.  Stays in my yard and is happy to be at home. Not scared of noises, thunder etc. She is not good with cats and squirrels (we do a lot of 'leave its' on our walks and don't move forward until she is under control), but displays some good hunting traits if there is anyone out there willing to put in the training with her.

21   6/8/08 ADOPTED! 4/10/08 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC. APRIL is approximately 2 yrs old, spayed female.  She is a sweet, good natured girl.  She needs further obedience training, but is housebroken and plays well with other dogs.  She is up to date on vaccinations and will make someone a very nice family pet.  Here is her foster home's assessment by Russ Smith:

April and my Weim Apache are getting along great – playing like brother and sister.  She loves following him everywhere. April also loves to chase squirrels out of the yard.  She has basic obedient knowledge.  I am happy to say that she is now sleeping in the crate beside my bed.  This is a wonderful girl!! April is very friendly and loves to play with other dogs. The ideal home would have a large fenced in yard, for her to run and play.  Another dog as a companion (large breed) for her to play with would be wonderful.  Also, she does have strong hunting instincts.

happy following them in the water and running back and forth on the deck with us. He listens great and knows sit and come. He also rides well in the car. "Shelby" an 8 month old puppy bitch, was received into our Rescue program  mid April by a concerned fellow in Florence, SC who noted she was being neglected and abused by her irresponsible owner.  She was at first shy and afraid, but with help from Melissa Harley, Shelby was found to be a wonderful, sweet,  well behaved 8 month old girl.  She has now been renamed Zoe and is being adored by the Williams family in Columbia, SC

4/16/08 ADOPTED BY DANIELLE CONSENTI. 4/4/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC"DUNES"  appears to be approximately 1 yr old.  He was taken to the Charleston shelter where we took him in our foster program.   He is really a lovely, light silver grey boy.  "Mr. Happy"  is very friendly, happy and lovable. His tail wags his whole body!  He has all shots and is Heartworm positive.  Currently, he is undergoing HW treatment (note shaved spots on his back) and must be confined for 3 wks during which time I will try to get some weight on him.  After 4/25 he will be able to play as a normal youngster.  He would benefit from obedience classes just so he can learn and bond with his lucky family!   He is willing to please, does not seem to have any bad habits.

4/10/08 ADOPTED! 3/26/08 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC AREA. "Dietrich", a VERY handsome, 8-month old Weimaraner, is a very typical Weim puppy.  He was turned into the Florence shelter because his family was having domestic problems and the wife insisted that the dog must go.   His inside behavior is calmer than his outside behavior, again typical and a good thing.  When he gets puppy-silly inside, it is easily redirected to toys.  He does not bother people who are eating dinner at the table.  He enjoys lying on the couch.  He knows how to “sit.”  He rides well in a crate in the car.  I believe that it is likely that in his previous home, he was stuck out in the backyard and ignored which would have caused much more unacceptable behavior resulting in his predicament.   He is extremely sweet and has a great level of confidence. He does not appear to have suffered any abuse.  He would excel at agility training as he is not afraid to go under the couch to retrieve a ball.   He has such great potential to make someone a lifelong companion.

4/4/08 ADOPTED BY RANDY & HEATHER SWINGLE.  3/26/07 BELLA is about 5 yrs old, spayed.  She was one of 2 dogs dumpted at the Charleston Shelter.  She has all her shots, is HW negative, loves to play ball, swim and retrieve.

3/31/08 ADOPTED BY MILLICENT JORDAN - NEW NAME IS "KLAUS"! 3/4/08 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC.  " MIKE"  was picked up as a stray in Greenville, SC and adopted by our club from the Greenville Animal Shelter.  He is approximately 2-3 yrs old,  heartworm negative, has been wormed and is up to date on other vaccines.  Thanks to Katie Malone for providing his transportation from Greenville to us. Mike is a very handsome, medium sized, neutered, Blue male.  He has had obedience training and is fine in a crate.  He knows sit, stay, and fetch.  He retrieves and swims well!  This is a really happy little guy whose tail wags all the time and loves to be petted.   He is playful and gets along well with our other Weimaraners and other breeds.  He will make someone an excellent family member. He appears to have good hunting instincts and should make a good gun dog. He seems to love kids.  Probably not for cats.  He would be really happy with a family to give him training, attention, love,  with a fenced in yard  & another dog to play with. He is very energetic and would do best in an active home with owners who can jog or play with him a lot.

3/31/08 ADOPTED! 3/28/08  LOCATED IN STATESBORO, GA Owner wishes to place a nice young Blue girl:

My sweet pup, Darma Dear, is about 15 months old.  She is a blue, very smart, well socialized, good with children and cats, and just needs so much more than we can give her.  My husband found her when she was a puppy wandering in the woods and we knew nothing of the breed.  We have 3 small children and since the baby was born, she just seems depressed.  It breaks my heart.  My husband works long hours and we cannot give her the time, love, and exercise she deserves.  I would love to find a family that would appreciate her.  She has been spayed, is current on her vaccinations, and is on heartworm preventative medication.  We live in Statesboro, GA

"SPARTAN"  is about 3-4 yrs old.  He was picked up as a stray by the Spartanburg Animal Shelter.  He is heartworm positive.  He has been neutered and is up to date on his vaccines.  It is evident that he has had a hard life, and apparently abused.  He was sick and a rack of bones when we got him.  We are rehabilitating him, he is now in good weight and he is coming along nicely.  He feels much better, is very happy and playful.  He loves to retrieve toys and balls. Spartan seems so grateful for a warm bed, good food, clean water and attention.  He is very friendly, plays well with females and neutered males.  He is food aggressive with other dogs.  Cats unknown; but probably would not be good.  He will make an excellent gun dog as he knows about quail and has a staunch point.   Please consider giving Spartan a loving  permanent home. Contact Elena Lamberson eslamberson@msn.com or 843-559-3938

1/26/08 ADOPTED! 1/24/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.."JAKE" is about 18 months old and one of the most handsome Weims we have ever had in our rescue program.  He is just gorgeous!  Light silver grey, beautiful face.  He needs to go to obedience class.  He is  friendly, a good house dog, playful with other dogs.  Don't know about cats.

1/5/08 ADOPTED!  New name is "Jackson."12/23/07 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC YULE is a Blue  neutered male puppy possibly as young as 6 months old. He is heartworm negative.  He was found as a stray and taken to the Spartanburg shelter (these pictures came from the shelter).  No one claimed him so they contacted our club, we had him neutered and he was picked up by GCWC club member, Merry Woodham who drove up from Columbia to get him.  Merry says he is really thin, but very cute and a playful puppy.  She is trying to put weight on him.  She named him Yule for the Christmas Season.   Yule gets along with her older bitch, Savana.  She is currently leash  and crate training him.  He is doing well in the house.  He will make someone a wonderful pet but must be taken to obedience class.  His adoption fee is $250

1/3/08 ADOPTED! 12/13/07 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC  MISTY, an 18 month old female Weimaraner, was found wandering the neighborhood on 12/10 and was taken in by Meghan in because she was afraid she might get hit by a car.  On 12/13, her owners  were found who were just a few houses down.  She had escaped from her kennel in the back yard where she spent most of her time.  The owners decided that they couldn't give her everything that she needs and handed her over to Meghan.    Here is her report:

She's a super sweet girl who loves to have fun.  She's been thoroughly enjoying her daily walks and playing with my two dogs.  She's learning very quickly how to walk correctly on a leash  She needs occasional corrections, but she's a fast learner.  Though she has never been an inside dog, she has been living in my house this past week and has been great.  She hasn't had any accidents.  She likes to chew on bones and toys, but has, so far, kept her mouth away from the furniture.  According to Missy's owners, she was born in June of '06, so she is approximately 1 1/2 years old.  She is not spayed and recently had a litter.  She does have a slight birth defect: her left eyelid doesn't close, so she has to use her inner eyelid for blinking.

Missy loves people and dogs and just enjoys having attention.  She would be a great fit with someone who can take her on frequent walks and with someone who has another dog she can bond and play with.

28 Rescue Weimaraners were successfully placed in loving homes in 2007!!

ADOPTED BY THE CHRIS WILLIAMS FAMILY! 11/12/07 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.

BAILEY This is a very well cared for sweet girl whose owner's health problems necessitated giving her up.  We want a stable home for her with a family who has time to give her love and attention.  BAILEY is a 3 year old spayed female. She has a good physical and mental health history with vet references for the past 2 years.  She was rescued as a 4 month old puppy.   She is great with other dogs and cats.  Lives now with a Yorkie and cat. She is delightful with children. Very gentle.  Very excited when you return home after being away, but calms with sit and stay command.  Loves to run in park.  Is leash and free-run trained.  Loves the water.

Bailey weighs 65-70 pounds. She is very strong and protective. Her bark is fierce. She loves her family and her domain. She has been on Heartgard. She has always been current on vaccinations.  Never had a major illness. Last summer was bitten on the mouth by a juvenile cotton-mouth snake in the University area in Charlotte.  She spent 2 days in ICU but recovered after 10 days on antibiotics and pain medication.  She has a small one half inch scar on her mouth.

Bailey needs a family with another dog to play with.   Must have a yard, good fence and time for her.  She will capture your heart.

11/7/07 ADOPTED!  11/4/07  LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC. "Bourbon" was owner surrendered to the Columbia Animal Shelter for unknown reasons. He is approximately a 4 year old male, neutered, HW negative, microchip, and updated on all shoots. Bourbon is friendly, great personality, and has shown no bad habits.  He is crate trained, house broken, get along well with other dogs, friendly with new people, walks well on lead, and honors many obedience commands.  There is no doubt in my mind, Bourbon was a loved and well maintained family pet – a little too well maintained in the feeding department (see pictures)

10/25/07 ADOPTED ! 10/17/07 LOCATED IN SIMPSONVILLE, SC "JULES" is 2 years old, Neutered, great with kids, cats and other dogs, crate trained and house broken. He is HW positive but on Heart Guard. 10/21/07 ADOPTED! 9/4/07  LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC  "JOE" is  said to be only about 2 yrs old, but  has had a sad life from a series of very bad owners and experiences, has been neglected and mistreated.  He was rescued - literally - by Kevin in Beaufort who found him very thin, starving and chained to a tree at a drug addict's trailer near Santee, SC.  He was being fed only table scraps, had lost most of his coat - and completely bald around his neck where the collar was cutting.  The strung out addict actually told Kevin that he had rescued him from another God awful situation!  Kevin  took him off his chain and the addict said "he will run away" but, fortunately,  he jumped into Kevin's truck.  Kevin took off  with Joe and drove him straight  to a vet , got him dewormed and his shots, gave him good food and he began to grow hair and  gain weight.  Kevin has had him for 8 months, but can no longer keep him  (due to moving) so he turned him over to our rescue program.  Initial assessment: thin, subdued, bad coat, friendly.

10/1/07: Update.  Joe is neutered, up to date on shots, is heartworm positive but is on heartworm medication, and has some health issues related to malnutrition, which should resolve on a good diet. He is playful, friendly and gets along well with my other dogs.  He will make someone a wonderful companion.  He does well as a house dog too.  Probably would not do well with outdoor cats.

10/18/07: Update.  Joe is handsome, an active, energetic boy, doing really well, and now is swimming!   He has a beautiful face! See him in the pic above  (orange collar) swimming with the other Weims.  He enjoys playing with my other dogs and is learning to retrieve.  He has also been observed pointing, so he may be a good bird dog. He would be great for an active family who can give him the exercise he loves.

10/20/07 - Joe will be sent to Russ Smith for some obedience training.

ADOPTED 10/21/07. 10/7/07  LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "GRETAL" is a medium, spayed, approximately 5 yr old bitch found in Bamberg, SC.  She is really sweet natured, gentle, obedient, friendly, and loving.  She is housebroken and would make someone a wonderful companion - especially as a housepet.  She seems fine with kids, but probably would not do well with outdoor cats.  Gretal is heartworm positive and eventually must be treated with Immiticide (our club and her shelter are willing to pay for this).  Right now, she is recovering from malnourishment.  Please consider giving Gretal a loving home!

10/18/07 ADOPTED! 9/3/07 LOCATED NEAR AIKEN, SC. "EMIL"   Report from his foster home with Melissa:  He is  just a  typical young male Weim that hasn’t had enough attention in puppyhood.  Emil is approximately 10 -12 months old.  He still has his dewclaws.  He is neutered and heartworm negative. He is a typical male pup wanting lots of attention.  He loves to play with sticks and to sit at my feet while I stroke his head.  He would make some family a wonderful pet.  Needs to go to obedience classes. Adoption fee is $250.

10/18/07: ADOPTED! BY Ted and Ruth Mamunes.  8/9/07 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC AREA.  "GABE"  (previously known as Greydog) was dumped in Mike's yard near St George, SC.  He sat on command for this picture.   He is a very sweet dog and will make someone very happy. He is being fostered by Russ Smith.  Thanks Mike for helping Greydog. Here is Russ' report:

Gabe is about 1 yr old. In the short time that I have had Gabe, I can say he is a wonderful dog.  Gabe sleeps while traveling, is house broken, create trained, honors basic commands, get alone with cats (loves to eat cat food – Mike had this problem), and plays friendly with other dogs (Labradors, Weims, and other dogs at the vet)  Honestly he is a loving dog who can be place with no rehabilitation.  The worst thing he has done is jump up on me- but with a quick knee – he thinks twice of doing that again.  Gabe really is Smart and wants to learn.  When I took him to work, he was friendly with everyone (all races and sexes) so he really is socialized.

Gabe is full of Love, who wants a little love in return.  When I say “no” he will stop and come to me with an apologetic look.  Gabe really wants to be a good dog.  Adoption fee is $250

Update: Gabe has been neutered and is being treated for a light heartworm infection.

10/8/07  ADOPTED!! 10/5/07 LOCATED IN SAVANNAH, GA.  "Jag" is an approximately 1 yr old neutered male. Here is the initial report from Alison Armao who picked him up from Beaufort Animal Control.: He was picked up from Beaufort County Animal Control.  He is heart worm negative, up to date on all shots, and recently neutered.

I did a temperament test on him today and find him to be a non aggressive male. He does not startle.  He has moderate ball drive.  His leash manners need work.  I was not able to test his prey drive.  He rides well in a car and after a few minutes settles down in a crate. He will make an active family a good pet.  Because he is a large male he would do best with someone who has time and the strength to exercise him.  He will need obedience training and probably is not house broken.  He appears to have lived somewhere other than inside a home.  When with other dogs he is submissive

10/8/07 ADOPTED!! 8/31/07 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC Blue is a 2 year old grey Weimaraner who was rescued from a Greenville, SC Shelter in May 2007. He is neutered, up to date on all shots, heartworm free , healthy and weighs about 75lbs.  Does not like cats (actually he really likes cats - just not in a good way). He is housebroken and very good and calm in the house but should NOT be left unattended. He likes to chew on Nylabones. Blue has worked up to runs of 3-5 miles and will heel off the leash on trails during runs or mountain biking (training collar recommended). Blue has also learned to swim and play fetch over the last few months. Blue is very energetic and a bit clumsy which has earned him the nickname "Scooby Blue".  Blue is good with children despite the fact that he is clumsy. Blue needs an owner to bond with, but he also needs a person who is educated in the ways of a Weimaraner. Blue has been in a shelter and 2 homes over the last 3 months - he is beginning to feel unwanted so please if you have some Weimaraner savvy give this boy a try.

8/07 ADOPTED. 7/17/07 IN THE CHARLOTTE, NC AREA. Zeb needs a good home. He is a full-blooded AKC-registered male Weimaraner, 9 years old, neutered and has no health issues.  He has a sweet disposition and lots of energy.  He is very intelligent and great with kids.  He is good with other dogs, as long as he can be the Alpha Dog.  Zeb is obedience-trained and walks/runs great on a leash.  He has been an inside dog his entire life and is completely house broken.

He responds great to all people but listens best to men.  His ideal home would have a fenced-in yard and/or owners with time for daily walks.  He loves attention and is a very devoted and loyal dog.  He is a great protector of home.  The cost of his food for six months as well as the cost of his next veterinarian check-up will be included.

8/17/07 ADOPTED BY LIZ CHASE. 8/2/07 IN CHARLESTON, SC AREA.  "Hazel" was picked up in July by animal control in Georgetown, SC.  She had obviously been chained out in some low life's yard.   The collar cut into her neck and she had beds of ticks on her body. Hazel is a small female and appears to be around 1-2 yrs old.  She is very friendly, loves attention and plays with other Weimaraners and other dogs well.  She is housebroken, is very sweet and will make someone a wonderful pet.  She has been spayed, had all her shots and is microchipped.

8/4/07 ADOPTED BY  Wayne Whiteside of Greenwood, SC 7/6/07 STERLING, GREENVILLE  (Simpsonville) AREA.  Information from owner: I adopted Sterling about 3 years ago from Alabama. He is very tall and 95 pounds (large for a weim), 6-1/2 years old, neutered, with no health problems. I have changed jobs and am traveling more.  My mother will be moving in with us at the end of July as well.  Due to these changes in my life, I need to find Sterling a better suited home for him.  My mother is older and small and Sterling has accidentally knocked her off her feet several times. Sterling is an indoor dog.  He is crated in our living room at night to sleep (after 10PM).  He is house broken and almost never has accidents. He has attended obedience school but still has to wear a pinch collar to prevent him from pulling during walks.

He plays well with other dogs that do not show aggression, especially smaller ones.  He is quite aggressive with other alpha males. He likes to be the center of attention.  He misses the attention he used to get before I started traveling so much and before my children became so busy after school with sports. We initially tried to travel with Sterling for short weekend trips but realized he does not travel well and becomes very anxious.

7/15/07 ADOPTED. 6/14/07 IN THE COLUMBIA, SC AREA: Information from owner: Sage is 4 1/2 - 5 years old and has been spayed.   She is up for adoption due to the divorce of her owner who must move to an apartment. She is petite at 55 lbs. She is an extremely happy and playful dog. She takes very well to a crate. She does well inside if people are home with her or if she is in a crate. My common practice with her was to crate her during the day and have her out with the family in the evenings.

Sage is a very smart dog, and gets bored easily. She is well trained and responds very
well to commands. She loves walks and walks very well on a leash. She loves to cuddle on the couch.

Sage is an alpha dog. She has always gotten along very well with our other Weim, Boone. However, I have noticed that she does not get along as well with other dogs. She seems to have a spicy streak in her, but gets in line quickly when commanded.  She does not mix well with cats.

7/1/07 - Adopted by Trey Hiott! 6/30/07 BAXTER in the Charleston, SC area is a handsome young dog, 9 months old, housebroken, in good health, has AKC papers and all vaccinations.  He is learning to adapt to new people and new doggy friends.   He is scheduled to be neutered  7/2/07.  Adoption fee is $250.   Baxter will make someone a great friend!

5/30/07 CAMDEN HAS BEEN ADOPTED! 5/10/07  "Camden" (formerly BooBoo) was picked up at the Camden Animal Shelter and is now in our Rescue program.  He is an approximately 1 yr old unneutered male, heartworm negative, all shots.  He was given up by his family because they thought he was too rambunctious for their young child. Stacy Collum who picked him up from the shelter, said she took him to a park and played with him for about an hour and he is a sweet natured, really nice boy who will make a wonderful pet.

5/12/07 Update from Russ Smith:  Camden is on medication for his respiratory infection. When that clears up he will be neutered.  Camden has been around many strangers in the past few days and is friendly with them - so he is very socialized.  Camden has been around several dogs (mine, Stacy's, at the vet) again friendly, no aggression at all. Camden has started to recognize his new name, walks great on lead, comes on command, and even honors the word "no" I have had no problem transporting him, Camden jumps right into both my work and personal trucks.  He is already crate trained, goes right in, lies down, and is quiet all night. Camden is really a great dog. I honestly see no reason for anyone to have ever surrendered this dog.

4/24/07  MOLLY HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY THE ROGER FAMILY AND IS NOW NAMED GRACIE! 4/15/07 - LOCATED IN FOUNTAIN INN, SC  -  Molly was found March 26 at my home. She was in heat when found and stayed with me for 5 or 6 days until My aunt Rosalia took her. She is a very sweet but was scared of sudden movements. She is also very good with children I have an eight year old son with High level autism that is not always as gentle as he should be and very loud. But my son was the only one Molly wasn't scared of .she was very good around him even let him hug and rub all over her. which my own dog doesn't even let him do. I was very impressed. she is a wonderful dog that loves attention (she will follow you everywhere) and I really hope she gets a good home.

4/15/07 LOLA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!! Thanks to  Gary and Hope Paul, in Moncks Corner.3/15/07  Here is information from Russ Smith, who is fostering Lola in Summerville, SC:
LOLA  is a young female less than a year old.  She has a very sweet attitude,  and is full of energy (puppy in adult body); she has a natural tail (not docked).  Lola came from an abusive situation, she was beaten for doing wrong, yet that was all the attention she ever got.  She spent most of her day locked in a house alone-but was not house broken, and appeared to have no training at all.  She freaked out the first day when I put a collar and lead on her.Today Lola wears a collar, and  works much better on a lead.  She will sit and come - especially if you have treats.  Lola's crate training has come a long way - will sleep all night but the crate must be in your room.  I do not recommend creating if you leave the house, she will freak out and non-stop bark and try to get out.  But she travels great in a crate - and has spends many hours in the truck while we are in the bird field.  I would say she is house trained now - but she still wants to chew on things - so keep plenty of chew toys.  Lola will make a great watch dog, she alert bark at every noise she hear, and lets me know anytime someone walks by the fence in the back yard.

I have introduced her to quail - and last week we got a point.  So with a little more training she would make a good hunting partner.

DEUCE HAS BEEN ADOPTED! 3/12/07 DEUCE  2/14/07;  neutered male, is located in Sumter, SC  Will make someone a great pet!

I got Deuce on Friday 2/9, and he is your typical Weim. Looks to be fairly young. With a little work (he catches on fast) he knows sit, stay, come, down, and has learned to  use the doggy door. Of course more work is needed in this area. He will go to the door to go out, but will not scratch, so you have to pay attention. This dog just needs exercise and attention. He has found out what a cat is , pretty much just wants to smell them. Gets along with any size dog. Likes children, but he does like to jump around, so small children may be a problem. I think with some one-on-one training that could be worked out because he is very friendly and wants to please. He is going to be neutered immediately. He should be ready to find a family by 2/21/07.

KAY 3/6/07 ADOPTED! Thank you Nancy Bixby and family of Lexington, SC - is spayed and located in the Charleston area.   We believe she is about 2 yrs old. She came from a HORRIBLE puppy mill in Raleigh, NC. 60 dogs were rescued from this hell hole.  We believe Kay and her co prisoners were never touched in a nice way by humans.  They were terrified of humans.   We have been fostering Kay and 2 others since December and have made great strides!  She is still timid but is much better.  Kay is ready for a new home as long as the home realizes that she is very shy and afraid of people.  She walks on lead, plays well with other dogs. Cats and kids unknown (we have neither).  I doubt that she has any aggressive bone in her body.  She is pretty and needs an understanding home.  Please find room in your heart for KAY!

1/27/07 ALEXA HAS BEEN ADOPTED! Thanks to Ms. Donna Koczon and her family for finding a loving home for her. "ALEXA" -  Alexa is  approx. 18 months old, spayed,  HW negative, and one of 3 bitches rescued from a horrible puppy mill in Raleigh, NC.  They had no positive human contact; they have been mistreated and were terrified of humans.  After over a month of gentle care, Alexa is now a tail wagging happy girl.  She is still afraid of loud noises and fast movement toward her.  She plays well with other dogs and is house broken.  Alexa will make someone a wonderful pet if they understand her need of gentle, quiet care.  She is being fostered in the Charleston, SC area.

2/7/07 Trevor has been adopted by Jonathan Perrine of Summerville, SC. "TREVOR" - appox 18 months old  neutered male from the Lancaster Animal shelter found wandering the streets.  He is sweet and adorable.  He has an undocked tail and dewclaws. He is being fostered with other Weimaraners near Columbia, SC.  He is housebroken and has a wonderful sweet personality.  Please consider giving Trevor a good home

"HARVEY" - 1/7/07 -HAS BEEN ADOPTED!! A 10 month old, neutered, handsome male was rescued  from an abusive situation in a SC trailer park by a concerned neighbor.  The rescuing lady  threatened to call the SPCA about the way they were abusing  (hitting, yelling at him, etc) him and so the people gave her the dog.  She took him to the vet and got his shots.  "Harvey" is a very nice looking and sweet dog, is being trained by his foster home, he wants to please, and gets along well w/ other dogs.   He  is also being crate trained, is housebroken, and is being fostered in Charleston, SC with another Weimaraner.  Harvey is showing real promise in the field on quail. He will make someone a wonderful family pet, and hunting companion.

Rescue Weimaraners make absolutely wonderful pets!  They seem so happy to have a loving home.  We carefully screen our rescue dogs and  offer for adoption only those who will fit into a family situation.

GCWC has had an active Weimaraner Rescue Program for many years.  Our Rescue people  have done a fabulous job rescuing and placing Weimaraners who have lost their homes.  Most of our fund raising efforts go to our Rescue Program (see Gifts)

We are always in need of homes to foster rescue Weimaraners until a suitable home can be found.

The Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club Rescue Program was established in 1987 when our first Weim was “rescued” and place in a new home

Purpose
The purpose of the Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club Rescue Program is to take Weims in need of homes, rehabilitate them, and find loving new homes for these wonderful dogs.

Goal
Our goal is to give as many lost, neglected and abandoned Weims as possible a second chance at a good life.

Where do Rescued Weims come from?
Often through no fault of their own, Weimaraners are turned over to us because of lifestyle changes of their owners.  The owners divorce, move to an apartment, have a baby, etc. and can no longer care for their Weimaraner. Also animal shelters throughout the state receive Weimaraners for various reasons also.  These shelters know of our Rescue Program and call us when they get a Weimaraner. Sometimes Weims are found running loose and are turned over to us.

Why adopt an adult dog?
Weimaraner puppies, as cute as they are, are notorious for causing havoc as they go through the housebreaking, chewing, and basic learning stages.

Rescued Weims make wonderful companions. They seem grateful for a new life.

How do I adopt a Weimaraner?
In order to adopt a dog from our Rescue Program, an adoption application must be completed.  This application can be found on our website under the Rescue Section.  .

How long does it take to adopt a Weimaraner?
The length of the adoption process depends on the availability of dogs in our Rescue Program that meet your particular needs.

Some Rescue dogs are placed within weeks of being received in our program. Others stay in the program for months as they recover from previous neglect or abuse.  Whatever time the dog needs to be rehabilitated is determined by the individual dog.

Cost of adopting a Weimaraner
A donation of $250 is requested for each adopted Weimaraner.
