WHAT WILL THE NUMBER be IN 2011?   we need foster homes!

CAN YOU FOSTER A WEIMARANER?  IF SO CLICK HERE:     Contact MELISSA HARTLEY  She will send you an application

The vast majority of Weimaraners in Rescue Programs come from irresponsible breeding by back yard breeders and puppy mills trying to make money off their unfortunate dog prisoners.  PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!  They prey on uneducated people with cheap prices and often unhealthy dogs (physically and mentally) They try to dupe the unsuspecting public about "rare blue" Weimaraners - these are just dogs deliberately bred (one parent must be blue or black) with a dilute black gene and it is a disqualifying fault in the Weimaraner Club of America. NO ETHICAL BREEDER BREEDS BLUE WEIMARANERS!

Also, NOTE: if the breeders say their pups are not AKC registered because of some weird reason RUN!  This means AKC has inspected them and because their operation was substandard, they can no longer register pups with AKC!  Often they make up some story about how they "dont use AKC because they support something or other" but the truth is they are BANNED BY AKC!!  The "puppy mill registries" do not inspect any of the slime operations and will register anything that pays the fee.

KONA

12/2/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Kona is a very young appearing 5 yr old neutered male, and heartworm negative. He was turned into the animal shelter for unknown reasons.   Kona is underweight but we are working on that and he eats well.  He is very handsome and loves to play with other dogs.  Kona is quite obedient too.  He will come right back when you call him.  He does not show any aggression with other dogs and would make a nice family dog for a family with perhaps a female.  No cats.  Here is a short video of Kona running around our farm with two other dogs.

11/5/11 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC Jana is a beautiful 13 month old  Blue spayed female.  She is somewhat petite and weighs only about 50 pounds but has plenty of energy! She needs to be an only dog or placed in a home with a male but she does get along with goats. She is very loving dog and wants to please you. She has also been around small children some and did fine with them as well. I believe she is semi-house trained. She hasnt had any accidents but I will continue to be cautious with her. She is crate trained.

SADIE

10/28/11 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC. Sadie is a sweet, very pretty, petite female approximately 2 yrs old who was dumped at a county animal pound with 8 mixed breed pups. The facility found homes for the pups but decided to put Sadie to sleep. We intervened and saved Sadie! Sadie is a happy girl and gets along well with other dogs but no cats. She is housebroken, crate trained and sits on command. She is leashed trained. She is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Sadie is scheduled to be spayed on Nov 30.  After that she is available to be adopted. Sadie is very smart and is able to open gates and jump fences, so outside supervision is necessary. She likes to be with her people or her other dog friends.

Here is Sadie running around our farm.

Would you like to know what the "AKC Puppy mills" do to their "breeding stock"?  They breed them every season until they die or cannot produce puppies anymore.  Then they dump them on the side of the road or at the shelters.   We see this frequently.  Some have NEVER been touched by a kind human.  They are noosed, bred, their pups taken and they are then kicked out in the yard again, rarely with any shelter, and food thrown to them on the ground.

Sadly, we have had to euthanize some of them because they are so terrified of humans that they cannot ever be adopted.  Please do NOT buy from puppy mills!

How can you tell if it is a Puppy Mill?  LOOK AROUND!  If there are three or more dogs bring bred, 3 or more different breeds - RUN!

THE FOLLOWING DOGS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED INTO LOVING HOMES - THANK YOU!!

HAPPY ENDINGS FOR OUR FORMER RESCUE WEIMS

                                                                                                   2011

39.   12/10/11 ADOPTED! 11/1/11 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC Sampson is a well behaved male about two years old. He is neutered, up to date on all shots, and heartworm negative. He gets along well with other dogs, but is untested with cats. He knows his name, usually comes when called, and is always glad to have human attention. He has no food aggression, loves to be hugged, and allows one to manipulate his feet with only the most minor signs of annoyance. He was not an eager swimmer on this trip, but with a little encouragement, he will be swimming. He walks well on a leash and will make a wonderful family pet.

38.  12/1/11 ADOPTED! 11/12/11 LOCATED IN MARION, SC I just wanted to let you know how wonderful Lila is and how she is doing. This must be the most loving and sweet dog ever! She is starting to relax and make herself at home. She does great in a crate or the dog run. Everything about her is gentle - taking food from hands to the way she interacts with Phoenix. Phoenix is working so hard to get her to play with him. She is showing signs that she may want to, but is just not ready to let loose. She is getting along with him great. They snuggle together on the couch and right now they both are sleeping on the bed together. She will let us take her bowl away from her and she doesn't even bat an eye. She will ride in the car great and will jump up into her crate like a champ. She LOVES to cuddle and LOVES her belly rubs. She rolls over and asks for them. Her tail is always wagging, even when I have to clean her ears and put the drops in her eyes. She has had a bath and stood still in the tub. We've also started working on her nails. She was SOOOO good. Let us clip and dremel. She did not move an inch. I wish our dogs would stand like that for their nails! :) Started taking her on walks and she does good on a leash. A little pulling when she gets excited, but mostly just walks beside you.  She said that her teeth looked really healthy.   Lila is a big girl and weighs in around 80 lbs. She really isn't overweight, just has NO muscle....all chub. She is on a diet now.

I do believe she is going to make someone a wonderful house dog and best friend. She is a good one!

37.  12/4/11 ADOPTED! 11/14/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Margaux is a beautiful, 6 yr old, spayed, retired show champion whose family had to give her up do being relocated  to TX for a new job.  She is housebroken, very socialized , swims and hunts well.  Margaux finished her show Championship with ease winning Best of Breed from the classes. She loves children & will make a wonderful family dog for a fortunate family.  She would do best as a companion for kids, a male dog, but  no cats.  Here is a short video of her on our farm.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5VcYicZ__s

36.

12/1/11 ADOPTED!  9/5/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Kirby is a 2-3 yr old very sweet, now neutered boy who was found as a stray in terrible shape.  He was nursed back to health in our Rescue program.  He is up to date on all vaccines and will make a wonderful family dog.  He loves to run and play.  He gets along well with other dogs and kids.  Kirby has a beautiful face! He is a little too clumsy for little kids but older kids are fine.  Please help us find a loving home for Kirby.

35.

12/7/11 ADOPTED! 11/21/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Jasmine is an approx 3 yr old, spayed female who was an owner turn in  to the shelter by owner for unknown reasons.  She is a little timid, but very, very sweet.  She walks well on a leash, loves her nice soft doggy bed, comes when you call her, knows sit and down.  She is heartworm positive but is currently being treated.  Jasmine seems to like water and with some encouragement would likely start swimming.  We believe she may have been abused because she is shy with people she doesnt know.  Once she knows you, she is your friend, putting her head on your lap and enjoying any attention offered.   She gets along with other dogs and has no apparent behavior problems.  No cats.  She will make a wonderful companion for a lucky family.

Here is a video of her strolling around our farm.

33   10/30/11  LOCATED IN MT PLEASANT, SC I am broken hearted to have to give up my adorable Weim.  In order to take a job,  I have to move to a small apt and no dogs are allowed. I have had Trigger since he was 9 wks old.  Trigger is a 10 year old silver that loves to be loved, his favorite thing to do is lay on the couch and put his head on your lap!!

He might be 10, but he still has the energy to run around the yard, play fetch and to go hunting. Trigger spent the first 6 years of his life in Northern Michigan hunting pheasants; and even still he has the hunting instinct and nose to hunt and loves to go out in the woods. He is housebroken and kennel trained and loves to lay on the couch with you and watch TV! Trigger gets along with other dogs and cats, as well as children.

Trigger has been neutered and was at his vet about two months ago for his 6 month check. He is on monthly heartworm prevention, as well as monthly flea and tick treatments.

32.   ADOPTED!  9/7/11 LOCATED IN MT PLEASANT, SC We rescued Casey (originally named Bubba) in November 2001. He is  10 yrs old and a very sweet loving dog. He is small for his breed, weighing 54lbs. He has been well cared for and extremely loved. He LOVES to eat and looks forward to every meal. He currently sleeps on “his” couch. He is potty trained and has never gone pee or poop in the house the entire time we have had him. He is a great companion, but as he is getting older he is slowing down a little. He has started to suffer from arthritis which could be managed with medication if possible. I spoke to our vet and he feels like Casey could benefit greatly from a daily medication to treat his arthritis. Other than that he is in great health and up to date on all immunizations. The reason we are looking for a new home for Casey if because we are moving to Seattle, WA where our job will be providing housing that does not allow pets. Our hearts break that he cannot come with us, but know he will be a loving new member of someone’s family.

31.  10/20/11 ADOPTED! 9/13/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "Tucker" is a 3 year old neutered male. Tucker is overweight and does not like to be alone.  He will do best in a home with another dog for companionship.  He is heartworm positive but is currently being treated. He is very friendly and likes people, kids and other dogs. He does not meet a stranger and has a great temperament. He gets along great with my other Weimaraners (both females and males) but will chase cats. He is not aggressive and just wants to be part of the family. He likes to stay close to you or in the same room with you. He is doing well inside with the exception of "counter surfing" and will even sleep on the bed all night with me and the other Weims. He is house trained. He walks well on a leash and only pulls when he gets excited but he responds to "no" quickly and stops pulling.   Tucker will make a great family dog as long as there is another dog to keep him company.

Adoption fee: $250

Here is a short video of Tucker playing out at our pond with an intact male and a 3 month old puppy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcasmRUmYtk&feature=youtube_gdata

30.  9/5/11 ADOPTED!  9/1/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. Ashton is a 3 month old neutered male puppy who was given to our rescue program because the owner did not have time for such an active puppy.

29     9/2/11 ADOPTED! 8/17/11 LOCATED IN ANDERSON, SC  Buster is a soon to be neutered Blue boy,  about 3 yrs old,  heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines. He is great with people and other dogs, but not good with small animals including  cats. He used to run around on a farm with 40 acres but very little human affection. He is great in our house, he is crate trained and hasn't had an accident in the house.  He goes to the door when he wants to go outside. He should really be an inside dog. He is much more anxious being outside and really craves the human connection. Buster is a great dog, I'm not sure hw he is with kids because we don't have any, but he is extremely high energy outside, but absolutely calm and loving inside, he wants to have his head in your lap all the time. He has been washed, had his heartworm medication and has flea and tick medication put on.

28.  9/2/11 ADOPTED!  8/25/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Lucia" is a 17 mo old spayed female, who gets along well with other dogs, housebroken, sweet temperament.

27.

9/1/11 ADOPTED! 3/7/11  LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Henry" is a beautiful old boy who was found trotting down a country road.  He was emaciated and covered with fleas & ticks.  He was taken to a shelter where they cleaned him up and vetted him.  He is heartworm negative, neutered and up to date on vaccines.  He is easy going and gets along well with other dogs.    We believe Henry is about 10 yrs old.  How sad that someone would dump him at this age. Please help us find sweet Henry a loving home where he can live out the remainder of his life in comfort.

Here is a video of Henry

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrg4FR4rxdc

26. 8/15/11 ADOPTED! 8/12/11 LOCATED IN   CHARLESTON, SC     I am sad to say that my husband and I are looking to adopt out our precious blue weim, Lola. We have recently been blessed with our second little boy in less than two years. Needless to say we are too busy to give Lola all of the attention that we feel she deserves. Also, we will be relocating in the next few weeks to an apartment and feel that now is the time to find a better home for Lola. She is such an amazing dog and we just think another family somewhere is missing out on such a loving dog. She is house and crate trained, great on a leash, wonderful with children, other dogs, and cats. She is 4 yrs old, spayed, up to date on vaccines, knows the basic sit and stay commands. She thinks she is a lap dog. Her favorite place to be is right next to you! She enjoys playing outside but ultimately is an indoor dog. She either sleeps on the couch or in the bed with us. Her crate will make the move with her.

25.   8/1/11 ADOPTED! 7/9/11 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC Boone is an almost 7 yr. old (Oct. 31) male Weim, up to date on all shots including a 3-yr rabies, and is microchipped. Boone is probably one of the sweetest Weims you'll ever meet. He's loving and loyal, and would love to cuddle with you on the sofa if you let him. His present family consists of a female Weim, a Min Pin and a cat, all of whom he gets along with very well, although I'd introduce him to new cats carefully. He's also good with my 8 yr. old granddaughter. He knows obedience commands and has had some agility training. With a little more training he'd be a fun agility dog. He's a big dog, about 75 lbs, and would benefit from an active family who can walk, jog or run with him daily and spend time with him. Boone is a house dog who likes to be with his family although he can be left alone for long stretches and is not destructive. He's a good watchdog and you'll never have to worry about anyone coming to your door unannounced. I really can't say enough good things about this beautiful boy. I have some health problems and I will have to give him up.  It is heartbreaking to have to give him up, so I must find the best "forever" home for him.  Please help me find a good, loving home for Boone.

24 7/1/11 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC Divot  is a blue, approx 1 yr old neutered male, heartworm negative, vaccines up to date.  He is  a very very loving dog that has been through some rough times.  Yet, he seems so happy all the time. He is friendly to all people, and other dogs as well. He is untested with cats. He is a smallish dog, only around 59 lbs right now. I am going put a few pounds on him during his foster stay with me.  He loves to ride in the car. He loves to walk on the leash, but is not fully trained on how to do it properly.  So we will be working on leash training. He is housebroken, sits on command, and is learning his name. He has exhibited no destructive chewing, escaping, counter surfing, or digging. His goal in life seems to please and be loved on by a human

23  7/9/11 LOCATED IN THE GREENVILLE/SPARTANBURG, SC AREA: We are looking to find a great home for our Weimaraner. He is close to 6 years old and is very loving.  Sam is neutered, up to date on all shots and heart worm negative. He is fine with kids.. Just ignores them ,not very interactive. Fine with other dogs but not a cat lover.  He is light grey and has the prettiest eyes. Sam loves to run--on or off a leash. He is a great companion and is very loyal. We feel like we no longer have the time or attention he needs. He is house trained and loves to chase birds.  Please help us find Sam a loving home.

22    7/15/11 ADOPTED! 5/8/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC Gunner is a approx 2-3 yr old male, neutered boy, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. He is a very eager to please boy who was rescued from harsh conditions. Even so he loves being around people and having his ears and sides pet. He gets along well with other dogs as well. Gunner is crate trained as he goes all the way in when a treat is placed inside. He sleeps in the crate at night without disturbance. Gunner loves to eat but has no issues with his food bowl being near adults or dogs. Gunner comes when his name is called and loves to play with his toys and chew his bones. He is learning to retrieve a ball. No other inappropriate chewing issues have been noted. Gunner is also housebroken. Gunner is taken out on a regular schedule and is praised for going potty outside with treats. He will go to the door when he needs to go outside. Gunner is a very loving sweet boy who needs a caring home for him to prosper in.

21        7/11/11 ADOPTED! 6/9/11 LOCATED IN GREENVILLE, SC Jackson is a wonderful, 5 year old male, healthy Weimaraner. He is neutered, house trained, up to date on all his vaccines and heartworm prevention, has had no medical problems, and knows basic commands. He weighs around 95 lbs, but is very gentle and loves people. He loves to jog on a leash, play in open fields, and he plays well with other dogs.

20.     7/3/11 ADOPTED! 6/26/11 LOCATED IN PROSPERITY, SC  Dakota is a 2 year old very happy and sociable male. He has been neutered, updated on all of his vaccines and is heartworm negative. Dakota loves being around people esp. kids. He also enjoys being around other dogs no matter how large or small. Dakota is house trained, crate trained and a graduate of Pet Smart Pet Training Program. Dakota loves to play ball and going on walks in the woods or where ever. He is completely leashed trained.

Unfortunately for me Dakota doesn’t like to hike in the mountains or sleep in a tent. He doesn’t like to go canoeing or play in the lake or any water. So, he is not comfortable with my hobby.

My work hours are not the best in the world either. (I’m on call a lot.) So as a result he has to be shut up in his crate a lot and that is not fair to him and he deserves better.

Dakota is the perfect house dog. He is a very well mannered, much behaved happy boy who deserves a great home.

19.
6/24/11 ADOPTED! 6/3/11 LOCATED IN GREENWOOD, SC Eddy is a terrific two year old male. He is house trained, sits and stays on command, loves affection, wants to be right with you, lets you take his food bowl, eats at the same time with my three and has no food issues, looks at but ignores my seven cats (through a fence), and he does not object to being crated. Good not ask for a better personality and behavior. He is to have his sutures removed on 6/6/11 from neutering.

He was found wandering on a rural road with no identification and very malnourished on 5/19/11. He has had all of his vetting, and he is Heartworm Positive, on Iverhart Max and Advantage

18.    6/15/11 ADOPTED! 6/6/11 LOCATED IN ASHEVILLE, NC AREA  Lynus is a 2 yr old male, neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative.  Lynus is very friendly and loving. Great to hike with and play. Needs lots of love, care and food in his future!  Great with horses and other dogs of any size. He will make a fun companion for a lucky family.  NO cats.

Here is a short video of Lynus  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs5REpNkFcQ

17.   6/10/11 ADOPTED! 5/20/11 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC Sid is about 5 yrs old and the perfect gentleman. He is completely house trained. He knows how to sit, lay and give a hi five on command and plays catch. He is also crate trained. He is very good with my children and our small dog. However he does not get along with cats or my rabbit. He has been vetted, is heartworm negative and is in good health.  He was very underweight when we got him.  Now that he is in a loving foster home, he is eating well and putting on weight.  Please find Sid a forever home!

16.    6/2/11 ADOPTED! 5/1/11 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC Belle is a very affectionate 2 year old spayed, heartworm negative girl.  She has such a beautiful face with nearly blue eyes. She is active, but not hyper like some 2-year-olds. She has exhibited no chewing or other destructive behavior. She comes when called, will allow you to take her food bowl, will let you examine her feet, etc. She is still learning to not jump up when someone is playing with her.  Belle is very affectionate and will make a wonderful housedog and family member.  She gets along well with other dogs. No cats.

15. 6/4/11 ADOPTED! 5/16/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  Cassie is approx 2-3 yr old spayed female, up to date on vaccines.  She is low heartworm positive and is on treatment.   We believe she came from being kept locked outside in a backyard most of her young life.  Cassie is grateful for attention. She is housebroken, very happy, fairly obedient.  We are working on leash training and she is doing well.  Cassie loves to run but comes when called.  She likes rawhide chews.  Cassie does not get along with females but gets along well with male dogs her size.    Here is a video of Cassie running around our farm.  We are working on getting her to swim and retrieve.

She will make a great family dog.  No cats.

14.   6/5/11 ADOPTED! 6/1/11 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Izzy is a very sweet, petite, spayed 3 yr old Blue female given up by her owners for reasons unknown.  She gets along well with other dogs.  Izzy loves to run and play.  She is a little shy but warms up to anyone who pets her. 13.    ADOPTED. 11/28/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  Ella is an ~8 year old spayed, female Weimaraner. Her family needs to find her a new home for financial and family reasons. She is a good-natured and easy-going girl. Although she is older, she is a great walking companion and loves to hop in the car to go on any kind of adventure. She is house-trained and will do tricks quite enthusiastically for a good treat! Her mom even did some pet therapy in retirement homes with her for a time, and she passed all the tests with flying colors. She is a wonderful companion for adults and older children, and she would be happiest in a home as an only dog or with other mellow dogs who aren't running circles around her. No cats. She is uncomfortable with small children and infants.

12.    5/18/11 ADOPTED! 1/10/11 LOCATED IN GREENWOOD, SC. "GRACIE" is very sweet and spirited. She is 4-5 yrs old, spayed,  is the perfect weight and has a shiny coat . She is house broken and crate trained.  She rarely makes a sound in the kennel.  Gracie  gets along with other dogs her size but would be best in a home without cats or kids.  Please help us find a loving home for Gracie.

11.   1/11/11 LOCATED IN GREENWOOD, SC CADENCE is a spayed 3 year old girl picked up as a stray  She came to us very timid but is quickly becoming comfortable w/ her surroundings. She loves to run and play w/ our other girls and is a definite "people" dog. She wants to be right beside you and keep track of what is going on. She will sit right beside you and cuddle up trying to get as close as possible and of course the head eventually ends up in your lap. Cadence knows a few commands, she will sit for a treat. She has a very sweet spirit.  Candence gets along with other dogs her size but would do best in a home without cats or small dogs.

10. 5//6/11 ADOPTED! 4/9/11 LOCATED IN MYRTLE BEACH, SC.  Chase was born on November 16th 2009, his owner surrendered him to our Rescue due to being unable to properly care for Chase. This wonderful boy is heart-worm negative and takes a monthly heartworm preventative along with his monthly flea preventative, he will be neutered soon.

Chase is calm, loving, has an excellent temperament, gets along with cats, other dogs, men, women, children, he is an easy-going, "happy-go-lucky," young boy. Chase, along with our male cat and female German Shepherd, sleep in the bed with us, he is a "considerate" sleeper and can make himself "fit" into the most unlikely small spots. Chase enjoys a morning and night time walk, he also loves to have his very cute tummy rubbed and many times falls asleep on his back with his legs sticking up in the air, he certainly does make us laugh a lot.

Chase is house-trained using the doggie-door, he has never went potty in the house. Chase walks well on a leash and is also good at "walking off leash" in the field behind my house, he listens well and is eager to do what we ask him to. Chase has learned the command "sit," he will "sit" and wait for his food bowl, he learned this in five minutes!

Chase enjoys chewing on nice, clean sticks, he has not chewed on any of our furniture. Chase is not accustomed to riding in a car and we have to pick him up and put him in the car, he can jump-out on his own though.

As his Foster Mother I would like to say that Chase is an absolute pleasure to be with, he is the best buddy to me and my kids and my other pets.

9.   4/13/11 ADOPTED! 11/1/10 LOCATED IN SAVANNAH, GA   Gemma is a ~2 yr old, really cute girl!  Poor little thing was picked up as a stray and was skin and bones.   She  is  now in good health.

Gemma has a small head injury and she is hard of hearing  but not totally deaf.  Her small skull deformity we believe has something to do with her hearing issue. This sweet, happy little girl tries to figure out what you want her to do. She tries so hard to please despite her disability.

Gemma is  up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative.  She is very affectionate, loves attention and loves to RUN and play.  She gets along well with other dogs.  She is housebroken.  This little girl will make someone a wonderful pet.  She is very smart and can open doors.  She is so intelligent and is food oriented.   She is fine with children too.

Come to meet Gemma!  She will steal your heart away!!

Here is Gemma playing around our farm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96t8j0Lh3vc

8. 4/10/11 ADOPTED!  11/30/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC "Kai" short for Kaizer is an extremely loving male Weimaraner approximately 2-3 years old. He thinks humans are the best thing in the whole world, even better than cookies! He will snuggle against you and stretch his neck as far as possible as long as you will rub it. He will lie on his back forever and ever as long as you will rub it. He does not jump up on people and runs around the yard happy and silly. Kai was an owner turn-in and according to the previous owners, he was raised with two Chihuahuas. He gets along well with other dogs but would do best as an "only dog" since he really prefers not to share his human's attention with other canines. He is housebroken, neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.

7. 3/15/11 ADOPTED! 2/7/11 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC "Ipo Angel"  is a beautiful  silver girl; We must move to a smaller home and cannot keep her.

She is 2 1/2 years old, spayed, and was born in August of 2008 in Spartanburg, SC. Her parents are both registered Weimaraners and we have pictures of them if you are interested. She has been under the veterinarian care of Banfield in Summerville, SC and is current on all her vaccines. She takes a heartworm pill and tick/flea medicine once a month without any issues. Ipo is wonderful with our children and very energetic. She is very protective of our family and leary ofstrangers in our presence, but is friendly to others, especially when we are not around. She likes other people and dogs after some introductory time.

When we go on vacation, a pet nanny takes her into her home where she has young children, 3 dogs and a cat and the nanny always raves about good Ipo is when she is there. Ipo does not like to be alone and is constantly in the same room we are in the house. She is not happy when we leave but we give her a bone to chew on for awhile and it helps to release some of the anxiety.

Ipo has taken obedience training and knows the commands: "Place." "Sit." "Stay."   She is a little mouthy when playful, but not aggressively. She does let us know she needs attention by nudging us in the rear end with her nose. She does bark at strangers. She does jump on occasion to greet people. She is fairly well leashed trained. She loves to fetch but will not bring it all the way back;  she loves to tug-o-war.  She loves to be outside only when we are outside or another dog is over for playtime.  She will not stay outside by herself unless she has to go to the bathroom. She is perfectly house trained.

Please feel free to call or email us if you have any questions.  We would love for you to come over to meet Ipo.

3/3/11 ADOPTED!! 12/21/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "Tucker" is a 3 year old neutered male. He was picked up from the shelter as an owner surrender. His owner was moving and could not take Tucker. Tucker is about 65 pounds and in very good shape except for being Heart Worm positive.   Tucker is currently being treated. He is very friendly and likes people and other dogs. He does not meet a stranger and has a great temperament. He gets along great with my other Weimaraners (both females and males). He is not aggressive and just wants to be part of the family. He likes to stay close to you or in the same room with you. He is doing well inside with the exception of "counter surfing" and will even sleep on the bed all night with me and the other Weims. He is house trained. He does walk well on a leash and only pulls when he gets excited but he responds to "no" quickly and stops pulling.  He can not be around cats.

Here is a video of Tucker playing with my dogs out by our pond.

5 2/21/11 ADOPTED!! 1/30/11 LOCATED IN  MYRTLE BEACH. Daisy is 2 yrs old, spayed and an absolute joy to be around, she is full of life and very eager to please her human. Daisy has gotten along very well with our house cat as well as our 8 year old female German Shepherd dog. Daisy is very good with our 10 year old son and enjoys playing "catch" in the back-yard, she does bring the ball back, after a while! Daisy has been using the doggie door to go outside and go potty, she enjoys going outside and sitting in the sun for a while, then usually she goes back to her place on the couch to take a nap. Daisy will benefit from the proper obedience training, she is highly intelligent and a very fast learner.

Daisy lived the first two years of her life in an outdoor kennel, in spite of this, she demonstrates excellent house manners and is a wonderful fur-daughter, she truly is "sugar & spice & everything nice."  She is heartworm positive but is being treated.

Daisy must have a very secure fenced in yard, she will escape If there are any weak points.

Here is a little short video of Daisy relaxing and loving being a house dog!

2    1/12/11 ADOPTED! 12/10/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC. Trooper is a approx 10 months old, neutered male.  I picked up Trooper from a family that could not keep him. He had been neglected more so than abused. He is now almost back to a healthy weight, but I still have him on puppy chow and a can of mackerel a day. He is less than a year old and has no real bad habits other than being excitable and jumping up when he is happy to see you. He has not chewed up anything!!! He gets along very well with my Weim and my small auxiliary dog (17 lbs). He was neutered on Dec. 2, and is heartworm negative. He is a real sweetheart. He is very eager to please, and comes except when he is scared something is going to happen to him, based on his past life I suppose. He is already overcoming that with the proper assurances that he is, in fact, a good boy. Enclosed are some pics. He is available for immediate adoption.

1.

1/9/11 ADOPTED!!  9/16/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Riley is an approx 2 yr old neutered, male up to date on vaccines, who was sent to our Rescue Program because his military family was moving to Fairbanks, Alaska and dogs are not allowed.  He is a happy, friendly, sort of goofy boy. Here is his Foster home assessment:

Riley is a two year old male. His military family surrendered him because they were moving again, and this time he could not go. He has been neutered and had all of his shots. Riley is completely house-trained and will tell you when he need to go out.   He is so eager to please and is a good listener. He loves to play fetch and chase or anything outside. The good thing is that he does not run off,  he just goes to the front yard looking for someone to play with. He is leash trained and ready for his new home!  He needs a family that is active, because he loves to go anywhere.....anytime. All you have to do is jingle the keys and he is at your feet. Riley loves other dogs, but  he will chase cats.  Riley is a big teddy bear and has a lot of love to offer!

2010 - 68 Happy Endings!  OUR APPRECIATION TO THE 54 FAMILIES WHO
ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING DOGS IN 2010

68

12/21/10 ADOPTED! 12/16/10 LOCATED IN LANDRUM, SC Kai  is a 4 1/2 old male puppy who was abandoned, found and taken to a local vet who turned him over to our rescue program. He is  currently learning good manners in the house. He is crate trained and almost totally house broken as long as he is supervised. He can sit and lay down on command and likes to go through the agility tunnel. He is a very cute puppy with boundless energy but because of having H.O.D. ( HOD is a puppy illness that makes him run a high fever and his joints swell) he is not allowed to run and play like a normal Weim puppy for a few weeks so he needs to be mentally stimulated and challenged. His attention span is short but he shows great promise with his obedience training.  He needs a family who will work with him on his training. He enjoys being around other dogs and learning from them as well. He is good in the car in his crate. He absolutely loves all people. He will need a Weim savvy owner because he is a very smart little guy. He has had his puppy shots and is heartworm negative. He is not yet neutered. He will need a rabies vaccine too.

11/18/1O LOCATED IN GREENVILLE, SC Claire is a spayed 3 year old girl. She was picked up in Anderson county as a stray and is thin but is beginning to get her weight back. She came to us very shy, of course, but is quickly becoming comfortable w/ her surroundings. She loves to run and play w/ our other girls and is a definite "people" dog. She wants to be right beside you and keep track of what is going on. She will sit right beside you and cuddle up trying to get as close as possible and of course the head eventually ends up in your lap. Claire knows a few commands, sits for her meals & only eats what she wants...unlike some who eat everything including the bowl! She will also "stay" to allow enough time to let you out the door first and doesn't want to be left alone, but that is improving each day. She has a very sweet spirit, not hyper at all.

66 12/13/10 ADOPTED! 9/30/10 LOCATED IN CASHIERS, NC.

Lola came into the rescue program when her military family was moving again, and this time she and her best friend Riley could not go.

Lola is approximately 3 years old, 65 pounds, spayed, up-to-date on all vaccines, heartworm negative, and in good condition. She gets on well with other dogs and is only curious about cats. Lola is completely housetrained and can stay indoors for hours on end with no accidents. In fact, I think Lola has spent most of her life indoors because she is happy to lie on my bed or a dog bed and only go outside when she has to or I am going somewhere. If I leave her on the deck with my 3 dogs, she jumps off and comes straight to the back door to be let back in.

Lola has had little or no training, so we are working on some basic commands, leash training, crating in the car and she is responding well because she wants to please, wants approval. At first, Lola was very overstimulated when we were outdoors, so I am working on socializing her in the dog park, around other dogs and in crowds. She went to a book signing with me recently in a small bookstore, and she was very well-behaved throughout the whole 3 hours.

Like most Weims, Lola wants to be with people 24/7. She would make an excellent companion for someone who would appreciate her attention and kisses.

65    12/14/10 ADOPTED!  11/18/10 LOCATED IN ANDERSON, SC "SKYLER" He is  a young,  8 month old, neutered male, heartworm negative, turned in due to financial difficulty.  He is an amazing dog, absolutely beautiful with a joyful disposition. He is completely housetrained and has wonderful house manners. He is great with our other dogs. He has not bothered anything in our house and is calm  inside with you. At night, he has free reign of the house, but sleeps beside our bed on a dog bed the whole night. He of course is ready to go out once morning comes, but does not really like being outdoors for very long periods of time. He especially doesn't like the cold. I feel he was an inside dog and would be happier in a home where he could be indoors more time than not. He hasn't fully grown into his face and legs yet and can be a little awkward when running and playing, but he is only 8 months, so he is right where he should be. We don't have children, but he can be a little excited when first seeing you and jumps up a lot when we come in, we are working on breaking that behavior. All in all, he is going to make someone very happy! We would keep him in a heartbeat

64    11/26/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Gunner" is a 3 yr old, blue, neutered male.  He is blind (detached retinas).  We dont know how or why he is blind but that is why his owner turned him into the shelter.  Gunner gets along well in spite of his blindness.  He learns the lay of the land or house and moves around easily.  He is a very  sweet and affectionate boy and loves to be lying next to someone who will pet him.  He is very tolerant of other dogs.  Gunner would make an excellent house dog since he is a "home body" and does not roam.  He seems appreciative of his home.  Please help us find Gunner a wonderful forever home.  You can see by this video that Gunner does very well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQuOQz3QRu0

63    11/21/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  Kobalt is a 4 yr old, neutered blue male.  He is in good health, heartworm negative. This is a really nice boy!  He is very affectionate, gets along great with other dogs, and is eager to please. He understands basic commands and is not food aggressive.  A little bit submissive, but only enough that he is very good with both my Weim and my small  dog.   Kobalt is not an escape artist.  He is content to hang out in the yard or the house without trying to find a way out of the fence. He initiates play with other dogs and loves to play ball. Kobalt actually taught my dog to play ball with another dog, something he never did before. He has not been tested with cats. This is a smart, loving dog  and will be among the best dogs whoever adopts him ever had.

62   11/8/10  ADOPTED!!  9/23/10 LOCATED IN LANDRUM, SC  . Winston is an 8 year old neutered male who doesn’t look or act his age. He was a family pet indoors until the age of 3 at which time he was basically “discarded” to another family members dog run for 5 years. He was fed well and taken care of in the physical means but lacked much human contact and socialization that Weims thrive on. Family illness forced the family member that was keeping Winston to pressure the owner to get rid of him. That was his lucky break!

Winston is currently in a foster home. He loves to walk and just hang out with his foster family. He enjoys sun naps in the grassy back yard. He is loving and sweet but desperately needs someone to give him more attention. He is good with kids too. He really needs to and wants to bond with one person. He is a healthy, big and beautiful dog. His nose is pink from lack of vitamins but has been clearing up with some additives to his feed. Please consider giving Winston his second lease on life and making him a part of your family.

53. 9/17/10 ADOPTED! 8/29/10 LOCATED IN GREENWOOD, SC.  Brooke,  was taken from a cruelty case in GA which also involved Greyhounds.  She  weighs 62 lbs, is about two years old, petite, very sweet, affectionate and appears to be totally house-trained. She was kennel-trained on arrival. But, she also should have obedience training. She likes to “nibble” gently at your arms when she is shown affection, and is a kisser too. She likes to show her affection by licking you every chance that she can get. Poor girl is grateful to be out of that horrible place where she was rescued.   Brooke does stand up on the cabinets and counter-surfs. I am working on that. She had a complete dental, and her teeth are very white and in great shape. She is spayed, HW+ (being treated), and current on all of shots.  She will make a wonderful dog for a family.

Please find Brooke a loving home

Her adoption fee is $250

52.   9/16/10 ADOPTED!  9/12/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. Adorable Oscar is an 8-9 month old neutered male who was turned into the Spartanburg Animal Shelter due to owner's financial problems.  He is beautiful, friendly, playful.   He has apparently been somewhat mistreated because we noticed he is fearful of hands and open doors.  So, we are petting him a lot and telling him we love him.  He is being leash trained.  He has all his vaccinations, is heartworm negative and ready for the right loving home.  He needs obedience training, but otherwise, should be a wonderful family pet for kids and other dogs.  Cats unknown.

51.    9/10/10 ADOPTED!!! 9/6/10 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC (NEAR CHARLESTON) Duke is a 5 1/2 year old Weimaraner who is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and neutered.   He loves human contact and is a great family dog. He prefers to be indoors and is fully house trained. He can sit, stay and shake. He is very loyal and can be very protective. He is eager to please and has a lot of energy. My infant daughter has horrible allergies and, sadly we must find him a new home. He is usually VERY good with other dogs... he loves the company! He is a little territorial with some male dogs. He is not aggressive but his protective bark will keep the burglars away! We are the only home he has known and want desperately for someone to love him like we have. I think he will be happiest in a home with other dogs. My sister has a miniature schnauzer and they are best friends, so big or small dogs would be ok. We are military and recently re-located to Summerville, SC.

Please help us find Duke a good loving home.

50  7/20/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "Daisy" is 6 years young. As a true Weimaraner, she loves to run, walk and roll in the grass in the field. Daisy gets along with children and other dogs. I would be cautious about cats and other small animals with all large dogs - nature just makes them want to bowl over the small "guy". She likes her 'igloo' in the yard and would quickly become accustomed to "her house" with her people. She has not been mistreated.

Here is a video of Daisy on a HOT summer day.

49   8/30/10 ADOPTED!! 8/29/10 LOCATED IN GREENWOOD, SC.  Hogan was taken from a cruelty case in GA which also involved Greyhounds.  Hogan is 4 years old, has AKC registration papers, was abused and is malnourished.  With good food and a loving environment, he is slowly gaining a little weight. He came with an aggressive attitude, but is now much more gentle and affectionate. However, it is still the vet’s recommendation that he should be placed in a home with adults -  no children ,no elderly.  He is not aggressive towards other dogs. He accepts a muzzle very easily, and he has learned to go into his kennel without a fuss. He and Brooke, if allowed, will eat and drink from the same bowl even though they each have their own. Hogan does still like to “nibble” at your arm when he is being shown affection…but does it gently. He is getting a lot more trusting of humans, and now rolls over on his back to have his belly rubbed. He appears to have had little or no training. He is beginning to show signs of becoming house-trained. We would recommend obedience training for him, and an understanding but alpha owner.  He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, HW + (being treated), complete dental cleaning done too.

48   8/29/10 ADOPTED! Skye - a 4 yr old sweet girl and adored by her new owner.  She was adopted before we could post her.

47  8/24/10 ADOPTED!  8/24/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC Zeb is 3 yrs old. He comes from a very loving family who is forced to find him a new home because we are moving to Fairbanks AK which is too cold for a Weim ( - 60 degrees!). This is the sweetest little boy you'll find. He loves everyone, including kids and other dogs. Larger dogs would probably be best if there are other pets in the home. He has a lot of puppy left in him and can play a little too rough for small animals (he doesn't realize how much he weighs).

Zeb's favorite things to do are to be part of the family, play, eat, and lounge around on the furniture. He also needs a place where he can safely stretch his legs out and run as fast as he can. A fenced yard would be best because if he sees a squirrel across the street...that will be his only focus.

Zeb has alway been kept current on all vaccinations and veterinary visits. He is crate trained and never has accidents in the house. He loves to cuddle and is going to make a excellent companion and addition to someone's family. Whoever gets this guy is lucky!

46 8/20/10 ADOPTED! 8/7/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  Zoey is a 15 month old, spayed female, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines.  She was given up by her owners who said they had a baby and had no time for her.   She was then likely relegated to the backyard and only seen by the family for food and water.

Initial impression:  Zoey just wants to have fun and be loved. Not a mean bone in her. She is somewhat of a swimmer. She has had very little obedience training. She will sit for her food and a treat, but does not come and has had several accidents in the house. I wonder if she spent most of her life in a crate or locked in the back yard.

Zoey will be receiving training for house breaking, basic manners and leash, etc.  She will be a fabulous pet for a lucky family!

45   8/16/10 ADOPTED! 8/10/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC AREA. Lori is a beautiful 3 year old female Weimaraner who was an owner surrender due to the owner being stricken with an incapacitating illness. Lori is adjusting to being separated from her owner and is looking for a new family to love her just as much. Lori is a bit shy with strangers but is very gentle and loving. She likes other dogs and spent a great deal of time in her early life at a doggie daycare. Lori is a healthy girl, spayed, and up to date on all her vaccines. She is very housebroken. Lori has AKC registration papers available to the new owner for registration

44. 8/6/10 ADOPTED! 6/24/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "Lucy" is 8-10 yrs old, and was taken to the shelter for unknown reasons; we believe her owner was ill and could not keep her.   She is up to date on vaccines. She is a wonderful house dog, quiet, very obedient.  Her foster family, sent their observations: Malnourished, but recovering nicely (in a matter of days, with three meals a day). Very tolerant of males sniffing her out or urging her to play. Sweet; totally non-aggressive, but interested in her surroundings, particularly other dogs and humans. Haven’t heard her bark yet. Runs towards people on the beach, sniffs them, then comes back (as if searching for her former owner). Pulls on the leash when walking, but runs nicely on a loose leash. Loves to chase tennis balls. Sleeps through the night. After the morning walk very little activity. Becomes active around 4 p.m. (Just right for someone working during the day.)   Lucy has been trained and knows obedience commands. 43.   7/29/10 ADOPTED! 6/8/10LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  "Will" is we believe is a Weim/Dobe mix  and we saved him from being euthanized. He about 9-12 months old,  neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, small, adorable full of joy and is available to a lucky family.  His foster mom says: Will is a small little guy who loves to snuggle. He likes to play ball with my kids. He is a such a sweetheart and loves to be around people. He is housetrained and has very good house manners. He is also very calm and listens well. He is not a barker, and does fine in a crate even though he doesn't need one.   Help us find a great home for sweet little Will!

42.   7/28/10 ADOPTED!!  7/20/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Bo" is about 3 years young. He also likes people and would like to become somebody's best friend. He is active too. I think that Bo would like the water or a pond to jump into. He "sounds the alert" if someone drives up to the house so that "company" can be sure of a Welcome. He is learning to walk on a leash (after he gets rid of the extra energy)! His beautiful face is like a billboard of LOVE.

She is always there w/ her joyful attitude. She has done well getting used to us "humans" and loves to play w/ other dogs too. She is spayed and has no medical issues...loves to sit beside anyone who is willing to give her a little  pet or hug....and also does a great job relaxing inside! (see pic) She would do well as an only dog or as a playmate.

38 7/21/10 ADOPTED!  7/16/10 LOCATED IN LANDRUM, SC (near SC/NC border).  "Reagan" was picked up as a stray near Summerville.  She is spayed, sweet and also quite pretty.  We think she is about 4-5 yrs old and has had a hard previous life.  Her nose is scarred likely from living in a pen.  She is heartworm positive but is being treated with ivermectin.  Reagan gets along well with other dogs,  will become a house dog and is being given basic obedience training.

37.   7/20/10 ADOPTED! 4/17/10  LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  MAY is about 1 yr old, is fairly small, very cute and friendly.  She is currently being leash trained and socialized.   May is spayed and up to date on her vaccines. She will make a wonderful family dog.  She loves everyone and loves to play with other dogs.

Update: May has advanced  to a dog that seeks out love and attention. May loves toys and thinks that she is on top of the world when she carries them around. She still needs to learn to walk better on a leash as it frightens her but this is easily remedied with time. She has absolutely no inclination toward aggression of any kind and loves all dogs.  May has never been an only-dog and would prosper best in a home with a male dog.

36.  Adopted!  Febe - a young female being neglected and mistreated near Florence,SC

35.   7/11/10 ADOPTED!  7/10/10 LOCATED IN FLORENCE, SC "Febe" is about 1 yr old and had been sadly neglected by her owner, left in the scorching heat in a backyard and undernourished (a rack of bones).  The local vet convinced the awful people to turn her over to rescue.  Within a matter of hours she was whisked away from it all,  a nice home appeared and now she is in her loving, forever home where she can watch the  pet goats and a donkey.  She loves her toys and loves to play ball.

34. 7/9/10 ADOPTED! 5/1/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC "Maisey"  was dumped on a rural road and had recently had pups.   She was taken to the shelter where we got her.  Maisey has been adopted by a loving home.

33.     7/4/10 ADOPTED!  5/29/10 LOCATED IN HILTON HEAD, SC.  "Dakota" is a very pretty female  ~6 yrs old. She gets along well with other dogs and loves human contact. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is really an adorable, loveable girl and will make a wonderful family pet.

Her adoption fee is $250

Her foster mom is Alison Armao

32.     7/7/10 ADOPTED!!  3/22/10 LOCATED IN CASHIERS, NC -- Ben (aka as Gentle Ben) was found by Oconee County Animal Control so emaciated and injured that he couldn't stand on his own --he had to be carried back to the truck. Abandoned and neglected by his original owner, Ben was in pain from a badly broken front left leg and dislocated shoulder. After amputation of this leg on 3/24/10, Ben is now walking slowly, taking steps two at a time, and gaining better balance.  The vet predicts he will recover well and lead a good life on three legs. Ben is a 2-3 year old neutered male who is heartworm positive. He gets on well with other dogs, cats, and loves people.  Give him a pat or hug and he wags his tail enthusiastically. Ben crates and travels well by car, and is very well behaved indoors. This sweet young boy certainly longs for a forever home.

Ben has gained weight and really enjoying life on his 3 good legs.

6/21/10 update: Gentle Ben has become Happy Ben now as he has recuperated from his amputation, been fed very well and put on some weight, and learned to trust and love people -- of all ages. He now gives one-legged hugs and kisses, sits and comes on command, loves walking on a leash, accepts and loves treats, plays with toys, and plays well with other dogs. This has all been a new experience to him, and he loves the attention, being part of family and part of a small pack.

Ben will be extremely loyal to whomever becomes his owner, and would love to either sleep in your bed or very close to it. He also loves to ride in the car and would make a great traveling companion for short or long trips, or just rides to the supermarket.

Ben is now a very happy and exuberant Weim and just longs for a family with older kids, a couple, or a special single. He loves to run and play and hike -- at his one-legged, galloping pace -- and has developed some great muscle tone and balance for support.

31     ADOPTED!  5/13/10 LOCATED IN MT PLEASANT, SC Her name is "Hailey", 5 years old.  She is a lovely gentle dog. Housebroken and up to date on all shots. She is good with children as well as other dogs-even small breeds. She is very sweet loves to run! She has also been spayed and has a microchip in case she was to ever get lost. Our family must find her a loving home as we had to sell our house.

30.   7/1/10 ADOPTED! 6/15/10 LOCATED IN GREENVILLE, SC Sally  was rescued from a puppy mill situation.

Sally came to us very shy and hesitant, but is learning and has accepted that humans can be kind & loving. She gets  along well w/ other dogs...loves to run and play, but  comes back inside and calms down for family time and a cool nap. Sally is spayed and current on shots w/ no medical issues....just waiting for her  permanent loving home.  She will make someone a wonderful family pet.

29   6/10/10 ADOPTED! 6/14/10 LOCATED IN LEXINGTON, SC.  Lucy just turned 2 years old and is a big girl @ 98.5#s. She's overweight (thanks to all of Mama's good cooking) and could use a home where someone will take her on her walks or be active with her. She is completely house trained and crate trained. She's not had an accident since she was about 3-4 months old. Lucy has also been spayed.

She is  AKC registered, microchipped & is current on all her vaccinations/rabies/worming, etc.  I typically have her anal glands expressed every 3 months, or when her gas gets unbearable. I have all of her medical records and can get the ones from Cherokee Trail if needed.

Lucy does not have a mean bone in her body!! She is the sweetest dog, just a little clumsy with her big feet and weight. She loves to be outside, but has never slept outdoors (she is an inside dog). She loves to cuddle and give kisses.  She still likes to grab your hands with her mouth to "lead" you or say hello. She does not bite and is not aggressive towards people or other dogs. I raised her with a bunny, but since she's been with mom (8 months) she's been around 2 other dogs.

Lucy is a hunting dog--she has webbed toes for swimming and loves water!!! She is the EASIEST dog to bath as long as it's in a shower (she's way too heavy to try and pick up). I've not seen her get in water above her head though--she's more of a flopper. I have spoiled her rotten...she likes to be blown dry with the hair dryer and will come running if she hears you turn it on!! Sometimes I'll brush her and put her makeup on her (she has no idea there's nothing there, she just loves being pampered!).

Her favorite thing to do is ride in the car!!! She loves the front seat and if you say "Go" in front of her, she's out the door waiting on you!!! She is super smart and has a great nose.

This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I LOVE this dog, but have committed to a 4 year research fellowship in England and cannot take her with me. My husband is in Iraq and is going into the Air National Guard when he returns in October. Mom has been gracious enough to keep her since October, but she has 2 full grown 80+ pound dogs of her own, and a third is just too much for her to handle

26    5/5/10 ADOPTED!  4/21/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. "Paulie"  is a young, beautiful, small female picked up as a stray in Florence, SC.  She looks to be about 1 yr old or less. She is currently quite frightened and underweight but does not seem to have been abused.  However, she wags her tail when we pet her so she does like people.  She has a beautiful face and a beautiful silver coat.  We will assess her, get her weight back to normal and then schedule her to be spayed.  She will make a wonderful family pet - especially if interested in a small Weimaraner!

25 4/25/10 ADOPTED! 4/2/10 IN GREENVILLE, SC : HANNAH - YOUNG MOM & her 2  FOUR WEEK OLD  PUPS (mixed) Here is Hannah's story:

Hannah is a 2 yr old fem found as a stray in Anderson county along w/ her 5 puppies.  They were in horrible shape (3 of the pups died).  Hannah is  an extremely sweet gentle girl and just wants to follow the family around. She thinks of herself as a lap dog and loves to cuddle. She was hesitant and shy when we first brought her home (understandably so..) but has adapted well in the week she has been w/ us. She greets us at the door w/ her tail and butt wagging.
A dedicated mom and very intelligent!  We put her and "the kids" in the yard one warm sunny morning and everyone scurried off to school and work. I work the midnite shift so my appropriated spot was my bed. A couple hours later I heard a little whimper and opened the front door and found Hannah w/ the pups camped out on the front porch...she wanted to be inside and close but also wanted her pups nearby. She had to walk across a half acre w/ each puppy and open an unlatched gate each time!! She would be very unhappy if left alone all the time - she definitely needs her people time.   She would make an excellent family dog.

Hannah will be spayed soon and afterwards may be adopted.

24.   5/1/10 ADOPTED! Blue male from Hannah.  close to 4 weeks old and are being weaned...a blue male ..looks as tho he might be a lab mix. Pups is active w/ good appetites

23    5/1/10 ADOPTED! 4/17/10  LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  APRIL - we believe this is a mother "April" about 3yrs old and a 1 yr old female puppy "May".  They were found together by a kind lady near Myrtle Beach who took care of them for 2 wks.  They are both very sweet girls and are so lucky that the nice lady took care of them and then contacted our program.  We like to think they escaped from their bad place (likely a puppy operation) and are going to find wonderful families to love.

Scheduled to be spayed 4/26/10; will be available for adoption after that date.

22.    4/17/10 ADOPTED!! 4/1/10 LOCATED IN CLINTON, SC "Dixie" is 3 yrs old and had been turned in by her owners for unknown reasons.  She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, is laid back, quiet and sweet.  She knows some obedience commands.  She gets along well with other dogs.  Her adoption fee is $250

21. 4/17/10 ADOPTED!! 4/9/10 IN TRYON, NC: " Winston" is a very small, sweet young male between 1 and 2 years old who was found as a stray in the upstate of SC. He is currently receiving lots of loving care on a beautiful farm in the upstate where he romps and plays with 3 other dogs. He likes dogs but really LOVES people. Winston is only happy when he is sitting on your feet or leaning on you. He shows his affection by “talking” and will give little kisses as well. He does not like to be separated from the other dogs or people so if you want to get Winston and keep far away from the house, he is not your dog! He is learning manners inside and finding that he enjoys sleeping on a big fluffy bed. This dog does not have a mean bone in his body and will make a wonderful pet for a family. He needs some TLC to help nurse him back to health but he is willing to give you his heart.
Winston has a cute little cowlick down his neck as well as a longer tail than usual. He is lightly heart worm positive but on ivermectin which should clear them up in about 15 months.

20.    4/16/10 ADOPTED!! 4/9/10 IN CHARLESTON, SC: "Jake" is a 12 - 16 month old neutered male picked up as a stray near Spartanburg.  He is a gorgeous dog!  He is currently underweight but he is loving his food so we hope to put about 10 lbs on his soon.  He is very playful and really adorable.  He will make someone a super nice family member.  He is a typical goofy boy who needs obedience lessons (which he is also getting).  He loves other dogs and loves to play and carry a stick. He is lightly heart worm positive but on ivermectin which should clear them up in about 15 months.

Here he is playing ball in the exercise yard.

19.   4/12/10 ADOPTED! 3/155/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Arnie" is a 3-4 yr old neutered male who was picked up as a stray.  He is a friendly, happy boy.  Arnie is quite muscular and handsome.  However, he can jump fences, so this needs to be taken into consideration.  He stays with his foster mom but if left alone he will try to get out of the fence.  He also has strong prey drive, so no cats. He would make someone a good hunting and family dog - especially if they like to run and hike. He is very energetic.

18.   4/2/10 ADOPTED! 3/29/10 LOCATED NEAR SAVANNAH, GA Katie is about 3 years old. She is spayed and current on her shots. She got left behind at our rental property in Texas. The tenants separated and left their dogs behind.  Katie, a male Weimaraner and one of Katie's puppies.  A sister and friend from the tenants came and got the male and the puppy. Katie was supposed to go to the shelter.
We decided to take her home with us and see if she gets along with our older Lab. They got along great and she got attached to us very quick.

My husband is military and has orders to go to Germany. Our Lab is going to stay with friends that had him before us, but they do not want Katie.
Katie is good with kids and other dogs. She loves to run and catch balls. She hates to be alone. She likes to be with her family all the time or at least with a dog friend.

This dog would do best in a home with another dog

We live about 20 miles south of Savannah.

She is spayed, is up to date w/ her shots, heartworm, flea/tick, etc...Lexi is a very sweet, energetic dog who loves to run or walk anywhere! She loves to chase sticks, balls, but does not really want to bring them back :) She just wants you to throw a new one :) She has no medical problems and is very healthy! Lexi also has a distinct and silly personality! We hate to give her up - but she needs to be in a home with only adults who can give her lots of attention. She has high prey drive so no small dogs or cats.  She would do best in a family without kids who can give her lots of exercise because she loves to run and play.

15. 3/20/10 ADOPTED! Sugar located in Columbia, SC

14.      3/15/10 ADOPTED!  3/11/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC.    Dexter is a  12 month old male pup.   He is very underweight and banged up.  He is getting lots of good food and badly needed TLC. His foster mom says: Dexter is a sweet little man.  He loves to run and play. He likes to play fetch and he will bring the stick/ball back to you and drop it. He knows how to sit, and he is gaining some weight.  Dexter cannot be neutered until he is completely well and has gained enough weight. He will make a wonderful family dog

13.   3/11/10 ADOPTED!  2/25/10 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC AREA. Jack is a wonderful easy going male.  He is calm and gets along with all dogs large and small.  He is housebroken and paws at the door to go out if he needs to go before you get around to it.   This male has obviously been a well cared for house pet for most of his life.  His love for opening fence latches probably put him in harms way and he ended up in the shelter so starved that he is mostly skin and bones.   He is on his way to gaining weight and likes nothing better than to lay in the sun on the rug in front of the window after a good meal.  He needs a home that can make sure he is secured inside the house and fenced yard so he can’t ever escape again and end up in such a fix.  He is not at all destructive.  He would make someone a wonderful first Weimaraner due to his lovely calm temperament.  He never jumps up on people.  Jack is ~ 7-8 years old and with good care is just middle aged.  He has a slight limp when he runs fast due to a problem with his front left elbow.    Jack has no behavioral problems.  He simply needs a good human to love.  This is an incredibly sweet boy!

She is on her last week of antibiotics for her upper respiratory infection and is getting better and stronger by the day. She is housebroken and loves to lay her head in your lap and just be loved on. She will make someone a wonderful dog!

10.   2/27/10 ADOPTED! 2/1/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "BILLY" is a really beautiful boy, very sweet, laid back, approx 3 yr old neutered male.  He gets along well with other dogs, is very friendly and would make someone a wonderful companion.  He is up to date on all vaccines,  and ready to find his forever home.  He is low heartworm positive and is being treated with monthly ivermectin. He seems to adore children.  I think he started out in a wonderful home, something happened and he went from a good life to a bad life.  Poor little guy!  He walks by your side and loves attention.  He will make a wonderful family pet for a lucky family

9.   2/26/10 ADOPTED!  2/21/10 LOCATED IN GREENVILLE, SC This is "Trevor." He's a little over a year old and was picked up in Columbia as a stray...no one came to claim him. He gets along well w/ other dogs and children and likes nothing better than to keep you company and of course get his ears rubbed! He is housebroken and obeys well...even when his nose gets the best of him. He has a gentle sweet nature and likes to crawl up on the couch next to you and fall asleep with his head in your lap.

8. 2/21/10 ADOPTED! 2/20/10 - Charlie - was an owner turn in from the Spartanburg shelter. He was picked up by our volunteer Dan Blakeley and was going to be transported to Charleston, but Dan's brother Claude decided to adopt him.  Thanks Dan and Claude!

7.   2/20/10 ADOPTED! 1/20/10 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC. "Rainie" is a 6 yr old, spayed, Blue girl who had to be given up because her elderly owner had to be moved to a nursing home.  She is very sweet but very overweight.  She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.  Her foster mom will be working on giving her less food and more exercise.  She is enjoying daily walks at the park and learning some social skills. She is also learning to enjoy riding in the car. Her best skill still remains snuggling on the sofa. She is good in the house by herself during the day and is perfectly house broken. When she is out in the front yard she stays close to the house and comes when called. Caring for her is very easy. She is a very sweet dog and will make a wonderful companion for the right person. She has always been an only dog but she does seem to enjoy the company of the other dogs even though they just nose each other through the gate.

6. 2/16/10 ADOPTED!  1/25/10LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "HONEY"  Yes, we know. Honey is not a Weimaraner.  She is part yellow lab and has some hound in her. But, what a beautiful face!!   Part of her tail was probably lost in an injury. We ended up with her by mistake but she is soooo sweet and would make a wonderful family pet.  She has had a sad previous life.  An old man in the woods of Brunswick, GA had been feeding her for 6-7 months.  He was leaving and asked the Brunswick shelter to help him with his "purebreed weemer"  They contacted us, set up transport to the old man and so we have her.  He said she had been tied out for a long time, finally broke free and found him.  Honey is about 7 yrs old, up to date on all vaccines.  Please find Honey a home

5.      1/29/10 ADOPTED! 1/22/10 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Dixie" was turned in to the Animal Shelter by her owners presumably because they couldn't breed her anymore.  In fact, it looks as if she just finished nursing a litter of pups.  She is a  3 yr old, very sweet girl, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, Heartworm negative.  She will make a wonderful family member.

4. 2/1/10 ADOPTED! 1/27/10 LOCATED IN SAVANNAH, GA     I basically am trying to find a better homelife for Vivi than I am able to give her. I am recently divorced, and on my own I simply am not home enough to give Vivi all of the exercise and attention that she needs and deserves. She is a sweet and smart girl who needs a lot of exercise. She wants to play non-stop. She is not a lap dog. She wants to be nearby to family at all times, but does not like to be held. She needs constant supervision because she gets bored easily and gets into mischief.

Vivi (short for Vivian) is 3 years old, spayed, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm and flea free, house trained, crate trained, has always lived inside with outside access to a large fenced back yard, has never been exposed to cats or children, has spent her whole life with me, my husband and one other dog (a female Great Dane), is prone to summertime allergies and weighs 80 lbs.    12/31/09 ADOPTED! 11/11/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "RAVEN" was found by a disabled lady  and has lived in her back yard for about 3 months without shelter and with two unfriendly, aggressive dogs .  He is a Blue Weim pup about 7 months old.  He was given to our rescue program because the lady could not care for him over the winter.  He now has had some leash & obedience training, housebreaking, etc by his former  foster Mom, Mary Simpson .  This poor little guy needs some TLC!

Raven needs a home with underground fencing as he is a fence jumper.  He doesnt go anywhere, just bops around and comes back when you call him.  However, he is used to being in a yard with underground along with the regular fencing.  As long as he has the collar on he doesnt try to jump the fence.  Raven had a skin condition which has been treated and he is much improved.

Raven has been neutered and is ready for his new family!  He is friendly, happy, sweet little fellow.  He will make a great family dog.

48 12/19/09 ADOPTED! 11/20/09 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC Belle is a 6 yr old, spayed girl who was given up by her family due to financial hardship.  Belle is friendly and gets along well with other dogs.  She is housebroken, likes to chase tennis balls and would make a wonderful addition to a loving family.

47  12/10/09 ADOPTED! 11/20/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Savannah is a 7 yr old, spayed, adorable, very sweet girl who was well taken care of but given up by her family due to financial hardship.  She is friendly, housebroken and a great cuddler. 46 12/6/09 ADOPTED! 11/20/09 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC.  Russell is about 2 years old, healthy and up to date on shots. He is house broken and crate trained. He is very good in the house but will get into trouble if left for too long alone. He will walk on a leash and run off leash and stay close. He loves to go on trail runs and mountain biking. He has great stamina and is up to about 8 miles on either. Russell loves children and is very good with them. He also loves to be with other dogs. He needs a family that will be with him a lot. Weims do not like to be left alone. He needs people and other dogs to keep him company. He is a pleaser and has been easy to train. He is very sweet and gentle with people and other dogs. There is not a mean bone in his body. Russell is a Beta dog. He was given to me by a pregnant woman who just wanted to get rid of him immediately. He was “running away” a lot and she could not handle it. Since he has been getting regular exercise with me there has been no problem with him leaving my yard alone. I have 5 other Weims which is the only reason I am not keeping him.

Russell will make a wonderful companion for someone. He is free to a good home. References will be checked.

44 11/20/09 ADOPTED!! 8/14/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. BETTY  We have a very sweet, very shy little girl named Betty, who is spayed, about 3 yrs old, a "bred and thrown away girl." She was dumped on the side of the road after a litter of pups.  This was an abusive situation and so she needs a family who can understand her low confidence level.  She would do best in a home with a male companion.  We are looking for a home with another male dog.  This is Betty's last chance.  She will make a great house or apartment dog as she is small and quiet.  Please find a loving home for her.  Cats are OK.  Betty is improving.  She knows some obedience commands and is not as afraid of people.  Please
consider adopting Betty!

43 11/15/09 ADOPTED!  10/18/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "Ranger" is a 9 month old,  neutered grey pup who has been well cared for and is up to date on all vaccines, heartworm negative.  He was given up by his family because he is a typical, rambunctious,  Weim teenager.   He is getting obedience training and responding well with his lessons.  He will make a great dog for an active family.  Ranger is very handsome, very happy, affectionate and friendly. He plays well with other dogs and is reasonably obedient.  He is underweight and we will be working on putting a little weight on him along with leash training.

42  11/6/09 ADOPTED!  LOCATED IN COLUMBIA AREA, SC in Prosperity, SC  (about 36 miles west of Columbia on I-26). Haley is a spayed, 4 to 5 yr old female surrendered by a family in a financial crisis.  She is very friendly, seems to love children, plays well with other dogs.  She will make a wonderful family dog.  She is obedient, is crate trained, house broken, and knows basic obedience commands.  She has lost some excess weight and looks beautiful. No outside cats.

41   10/27/09  ADOPTED!   10/10/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "GEORGIA"  is a small, petite (about 40 lbs), grey female.  She was found  late September with a leg wound, emaciated and nearly starved to death in the Georgetown, SC area.  She has been abused and neglected.  The Georgetown shelter patched her up and put her on the road to recovery. Then she was placed in our Rescue Program.  In the coming weeks, we will be working on her self confidence.   We estimate that she is about 4-5 yrs old.  She needs a loving family to help her live a wonderful life and  forget her sad previous life.  She has been spayed and her teeth cleaned.  She is ready for her forever family.

40   (photos taken after she went swimming)

10/17/09 ADOPTED! 10/3/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. Edith  is a sweet, well-mannered, low-maintenence dog. She loves to take walks & swim. She is very food motivated so teaching her basic commands is a breeze. She is not "mouthy" so retrieving & toys don't seem to interest her. She is crate-trained & an excellent house dog. She has never had an accident, eats all her food, gets along with my other dogs & three cats. She doesn't like other animals near her food but neither do my dogs. She is not aggressive toward humans. She has a strong warning bark but it not excessively vocal.  She is a natural swimmer and loves the water.

She is still under treatment for folliculitis & her coat is coming in & getting thicker. She has an eye infection which is clearing up with
treatment. I'm still working on getting her nails trimmed down & we've made a lot of progress.

She is an "easy keeper" & an absolute delight to have in my household. She would make a wonderful pet for those who enjoy walking but don't
want a high energy dog. She's also a good "bed dog", curling up & sleeping through the night
.

39    10/18/09 ADOPTED!   10/5/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "PETE" is a very handsome, approximately 4 yr old neutered male.  He was obtained from the Lexington shelter.  He is very sweet, gentle, plays well with other dogs, is tolerant of puppies jumping all over him.  Pete has a shoulder  injury which causes him to limp.  He has been evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon who feels it is an old injury and he has adjusted to it.  Pete loves to carry the bumper around.  He knows some obedience commands, and we think he can do some tricks.  He tries to sit up, speak and shake hands.  He can run, jump in and out of the car.  He would make a wonderful family pet.

3810/12/09 ADOPTED! 9/29/09 COLUMBIA, SC There is a very nice neutered male 4 yr old Weim "Toby"  who needs a home in or near Columbia, SC. He must be rehomed because the new baby is allergic to him.  The family is heartbroken.  Toby will go to a wonderful new family!

36 10/10/09 ADOPTED! 10/7/09. LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. Zoey is a 5 yr old, sweet, very friendly girl who will make a wonderful family member.  She was fostered by Barbara Glover and adopted before we could post her!  The Lukacs family now
enjoys her company! Zoey is a lucky girl.

35   10/9/09 ADOPTED! LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  Mila is a very sweet petite pretty girl, around one year to two years of age, who loves to sit right next to her human whenever possible.  She is wonderful with medium to large dogs and tolerates all the face nudging and body slamming that my 16 month old girl throws at her.    She is a good negotiator with other dogs to try to get what she wants and will persist until she gets it or until there seems to be no hope, like who gets to sit closest to the human.   She does not appreciate small dogs or cats however as she has a strong prey drive and sees them as small furry things to be chased and caught in her mouth.  She is quite athletic and easily motivated and I believe would make a good agility competitor as she is fast on her feet.  She loves a good Nylabone and will spend an hour focused on a good chew toy.   Her previous foster home tested her with children and she did well.  No cats.

She is heartworm negative. Sera was a sad but calm puppy when she first arrived but she gets happier with each passing day. She has a beautiful face with still lovely greenish eyes. She has not exhibited any destructive chewing even with toys or her fluffy comforter and she is housebroken. Miraculously, she does not appear to have any behavioral problems of any kind even though she has spent most of her life tied to a tree. Her temperament is calm, happier every minute, and generally well mannered. She loves people and sits calmly on the couch for as long as you will pet her.  Her adoption fee is $300

5/13/09 YOUNG WEIM PUPS IN CHARLESTON, SC.    3 pups who are probably ~8 months old and likely came from a puppy mill.  They have long tails and their dewclaws.  They had not been socialized.  We have them in foster homes and we are working to socialize them. They were turned in to the shelter in terrible condition - bad coats, extremely underweight (racks of bones), dehydrated and had to have fluids.  They are now on excellent food and gaining  weight.   Since they are young, it should not take long.  They were terrified of humans.  We hold them and pet them, trying to build their confidence in humans.  They play well with other dogs.  They are named Bella, Clyde - and  Scout is the largest of the 3 pups and is probably about 6 months older.  All 3 pups are doing great!  They are gaining confidence and loving all the attention and good food.  All have gained weight, are glad to see us every day and love to go on walks on the flexi lead.

20  At the shelter         After Katie Malone cleaned and fixed him up 6/5/09 ADOPTED! 6/4/09 LEONARDO. (previously known as Manley) was turned in to the Greenville shelter (also said that Animal control took him from owner due to neglect) by "owner" and said to be 5 yrs old.  We found out later that he will be 13 yrs this year.  Previous owners wanted to put him down in January 09.  But a "friend" took him.  He was in horrible condition.  His last vet visit he weighed 65 lbs.  He now weighs about 35.  He had been hurt and neglected.  What kind of friend would do this to a sweet old dog?  Thanks to Katie Malone for pulling him from the Greenville shelter, finding out about his previous life and patching him up.  And, thanks to Dan Blakely for telling his brother, Claude who adopted Leonardo to allow him to live out the rest of his days at a lovely  home on Lake Greenwood.

New name is Manfred and here he is at Claude Blakely's home:

19     5/12/09 ADOPTED! 2/10/09 LOCATED IN SENECA, SC (45 mi West of Greenville) Josie is a 7 yr old female. She has a very gentle temperament, but is a little shy. She is an excellent housedog that would get along with other dogs well but  not cats. She has been shown and is trained to hunt.  She travels well and is also crate trained. Her mother is Ch. Smoke's Hifalutin Grea Lady JH, sire is Globemasters Jolly St. Nick. SD,NSD,SH,V.

17 & 18     5/10/09 ADOPTED! 4/14/09 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC.  Brooklyn and Benson have been together for 6 yrs.

Benson is a 7 yr old neutered male.  He gets along with other dogs, cats and kids.  he is up to date on shots and hw prevention.  He is housebroken and crate trained.

Brooklyn is a 6 yr old spayed female.  she gets along with other dogs, cats and kids.  she is up to date on shots and hw prevention.  she is housebroken and crate trained.

Reason for putting them up for adoption: He had the two Weims before he met his wife.  She had the beagle mix.  they just had a baby 9-10 months ago and the dogs aren't getting the attention like they used to and the beagle likes to dig out of the yard and Benson follows.  They aren't getting the exercise they need, are typical weims and have lots of energy.   He said they are well behaved but need more attention and  more exercise

They have been together for the last 6 yrs and the owner would like to try and place them together.   I know its going to be really hard to place them together but thought it was worth a shot.

16  4/6/09 ADOPTED!  4/1/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Jaxon" is a beautiful, 4 yr old, neutered, HW neg male.  He was well cared for in a loving home but had to be given up due to the economy (family lost jobs and cannot sell home, etc).  He is up to date on vaccines and is AKC reg.  He a very sweet affectionate boy, gets along well with other dogs, loves to play and will make someone a fabulous family member.  His adoption fee is $250.  Jaxon was adopted by a loving family!

15   3/27/09 ADOPTED! 3/23/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. "Polly" is a 7 month old, spayed, female puppy who was obtained by a family from a bad breeder.  She has an undocked tail and front dewclaws.  The family reported that she was left to run with another dog in a junk yard for the first 4 months of her life and not socialized.  She is afraid of humans. They bought her because they felt so bad for her living conditions.   The  family donated Polly to our Rescue program because they did not know how to deal with her fear issues.  Polly loves other dogs but either was abused or neglected while at the puppy mill.  She needs intensive human contact which she is now receiving.  She would do fine in a family with another dog, but needs lots of human contact to build her confidence and overcome her fear of humans.  She would do best with a stay at home Mom or Dad and another dog.  Her adoption fee is $350.

3/24/09 - update: Polly is walking on a lead well and comes into the house.  She is still afraid of new situations.  However, if I sit down on the ground, she will come up to me and let me pet her and give her a treat.   I am able to get her to stand up on lead while petting her.
New name is Betty!

14    3/13/09 ADOPTED! 3/2/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Henry" is a  ~4 month old male puppy who was rescued from a puppy mill in GA by a young couple.  However, Henry had been kept in a cage without human contact and is afraid of humans. The puppy mill  owner didn't want him because he was too old to sell so he was given to the couple.  They turned him over to our Rescue program because they did not know how to deal with his fears and certainly didnt want him to go back to that hell hole.   He needs rehabilitation and socialization.  He will hopefully become a normal little boy puppy within a few weeks at which time he will be available for adoption.

3/3/09- Update:  In 24 hrs, Henry is noticeably improving. He goes on long walks with me and lets me hold and pet him.  He loves my other Weims and sleeps with my 6 month old at night. However, he must be kept on a leash because he is still very afraid of being approached by me.   He is teething, appears to be 4 months old and I believe he will likely be a small adult.

3/6/09 - Henry now comes and goes without a leash.  I put a drag line on him when we go out for walks, but he is now glad to see me and likes being held and petted.  He can now sleep in his own room without another dog. My  6 month old loves to hold his leash when we walk around the pond.

3/11/09 Henry is spending a lot of time in the house, is crate trained and is now an official "snuggle bunny".  He is still a little timid with new situations, but otherwise is pretty much a normal sweet little Weimaraner boy.

He needs a family who will spend some time loving him and building his confidence.

8 2/14/09 ADOPTED!! 1/23/09 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.   "BITZY" - this is a pitiful, small female who is a "bred and thrown away" girl.  She  was recently bred, her puppies taken and then she was dumped by some low life.  She was sick and her coat was in terrible condition.  She badly needed some TLC and is now being loved and nurtured by Barbara Glovers family.  Bitsy is scheduled to be spayed the last week of January.  When she is ready she will be posted. This photo was taken at the shelter when she was sick.  We will post her more recent photos in the coming weeks.  Bitzy is doing really well now.

7    1/29/09 ADOPTED! 1/16/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. "Carrie" is a 3-4 yr old, grey, spayed girl who was picked up as a stray and not claimed.  She is  heartworm negative, calm, very sweet, friendly, gets along with other dogs.  She also is leash broken, does fine in a crate and is a wonderful, well behaved house dog.  It is hard to believe anyone would give up such a nice girl. Carrie will make a great family member for a lucky family!

6    1/21/09 ADOPTED! 12/17/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC      "Emma" is a very pretty, 4 yr old spayed girl, up to date on all vaccines, heartworm neg.  She had to be given up by her family due to difficult financial times.  Emma can shake, sit, play dead.  She lived with a toy breed and gets along well with an obnoxious 4 month old puppy and other dogs.  She is very friendly and is an excellent housedog.  She will make a wonderful family pet.

5   1/23/09 ADOPTED! 1/9/09 LOCATED IN FRANKLIN, NC (NEAR  HIGHLANDS, NC )Turbo  is a 1 yr old, neutered grey male, up to date on all vaccines and Heartworm negative.  He has been well cared for but his owner must give him up due to no time for him because of kids and husband has been sent to Iraq.

Owner says: He has been crate trained and house broken.  He is a loving dog always wanting to be near and lay with you.   He goes to the door when needs to go out and the same to come in. He is pretty much an indoor dog and does very well.  I believe he is past the chewing stage, although I keep him supplied with rawhides to keep busy. He has a automatic feeder and does well with it with 80lb continuous weight.  I bought him for my husband on valentines day last year, but my husband is now located in IRAQ for a year or two and we are looking to sell and move to Wilmington, NC or Charleston, SC to be back with family. It has been alot for me and having two boys to keep up with to give him the attention he needs.  I feel I am neglecting him for the attention and space he needs to get his energy out. I hope to find a good loving home for him and believe he will adjust very well.  So if you are able to help me I will be truly grateful and happy that he is in a good home with a fenced yard.

4     1/17/09 ADOPTED! 12/30/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. AMOS is a 7 yr old Blue neutered male up to date on all his shots. He was found tied to a tree starving in the upstate. A kind neighbor took him from the low lives who were mistreating him and gave him to a volunteer in our rescue program who brought him to his foster home in Charleston.
Amos is one of the most friendly, laid back Weims I have ever seen. His tail wags constantly.  Although he is a rack of bones, he eats well and we feed him 5 small meals a day to try to put the weight back on. He just seems to be thankful for life! He loves all other dogs and all people. He walks into every situation with a happy attitude.  He loves to run in the yard with other dogs and carry a ball or dummy.  He acts as if he would like to swim but doesnt know how yet.  By the summer, if given an opportunity, I believe he would be a great swimmer.

Update 1/12/09: Amos has gained weight, looks  & feels much better!  He is playing with other dogs and having a great time running around our farm. He will make a wonderful family pet.   New name Ranger - here he is the day he was adopted by the Nelson family.

3   1/16/08 ADOPTED! 12/27/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC Savanna is 5yrs. old, AKC registered, spayed and up to date on her shots.  She is a very active dog, knows how to catch a frisbee, swim after one and retrieve.  She needs someone who can devote time to her with exercise.  I use to do this but I now have a new baby (human) and an older weimie that I am successfully managing.   Please help me find a good home for her.

54 12/29/08 ADOPTED! 12/17/08 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  Cosmos must be given up because his owner died and the widow cannot afford to keep him anymore.   Here is what she says about him:  Cosmos is a 7 yr old neutered male who loves to run and play.  His owner passed away this year and he really misses having a guy in his life.  He is current with all his shots and is looking for someone to love. He is a big loving fellow.  Cosmos is leash trained.  He loves daily hikes and has spent most of his time inside although he appreciates an outside fenced in yard. Cosmos is great with other dogs, has wonderful manners and is a fabulous house dog.

53 12/24/08ADOPTED! 12/17/08 LOCATED IN THE COLUMBIA, SC AREA GUNNER IS READY FOR A NEW HOME!! Gunner is a wonderful boy who has now recovered from a terrible situation

11/5/08 Gunner's story:  We now have a very heartbreaking case of Gunner who was neglected by his mentally ill owner.  When the owner's mother discovered poor little Gunner's condition, he was taken to the Charleston shelter and the owner was taken to a mental health facility. The Shelter called us and now he is on his way to his foster home in Cayce, SC.  He will need some TLC and time to recover and then we will offer him for adoption. He is about 4- 5 years old, weighs ~ 51 pounds, and is neutered. Obedience trained, knows sit, shake, kennel up, and plays fetch. He is a very sweet boy.

11/8 - First update from his foster home:

"Gunner is the sweetest dog I have fostered.  This is the kind of dog you don't offer to the general public, but instead tell your friend who has been waiting for a year or two for a really special dog. He acts like a littermate with my 4 yr old male.  They spent the day competing for a ball thrown down the hill and split returns about 70% my dog.  At one point I've seen them one with the ball and the other trying to take the ball out of the other's mouth.  No hostility.  Two males knowing each other for 2 days.  I know my dog is ok with fosters, but Gunner is great."

52   12/808 ADOPTED!! 12/5/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  Benny was picked up as a stray in the Georgetown area.  He is underweight and has certainly been neglected.  I don't think he has ever lived inside before.  He loves his soft bed and good food.  He is a small male about 14 months old and weighs 50 lbs.  He needs some TLC.  Benny is very sweet, friendly, loves to play with my 4 month old puppy.  He is microchipped,  neutered and up to date on all vaccinations.  He will make someone a wonderful family pet.

51 12/5/08 ADOPTED! 10/10/08 LOCATED NEAR MYRTLE BEACH, SC. Our loving Weimaraner, Sophie,  is a 3 yr old, spayed,  sweet dog, very loyal, fun to be around, very pretty. She has gone through basic training at the canine command center and as long as she gets the attention and exercise she needs is obedient. She needs owner (s) that will be sure she gets daily exercise, good attention, and limited kid contact.   Good with other dogs, but not cats.  She is also a good watchdog.  Current on all shots & very healthy.

Sophie is being fostered by her owners.

50        11/21/08 ADOPTED! 11/12/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "Bonnet" is a really pretty, fairly large Blue girl who appears to be about 1 yr old.   She was sent to us by the Marion Animal Shelter where she had been turned in by her owner. She was likely thrown in someone's back yard and ignored. She is very friendly and  playful but territorial with food.  She needs obedience training.  We are working on stopping her from jumping up and mouthing hands.   She LOVES to play ball!  Bonnet will make a fantastic family companion ONLY if she is worked with and taken to obedience classes.  Bonnet is very smart and  learns fast, but needs a firm hand to teach her manners.

49   11/20/08 ADOPTED!! 8/19/08 LOCATED IN THE GREENVILLE, SC AREA: Sully is a neutered male about 18 months old.  He is heart worm negative and up to date on all of his shots.  He was found on the steps of a church with another male and a female Weimaraner.  Animal control was called and all three went to the Lexington Animal Shelter.  Sully was underweight and was pretty beat up.  He made a nice recovery and will make a GREAT companion.  He gets along very well with my two females and would do best in a home with another dog.  He has become a shadow to me and to the two girls.  Like most Weimaraners, he will chase cats, so no homes with cats.

He is a very friendly, happy boy and likely would do fine with kids.

Sully is housebroken and crate trained.   Like all Weims at this age, he should not be left alone loose in the house as he will counter surf and find something to take away his boredom.  However, he does fine in the house if you are there and will even sleep (all night) on your bed.

48    11/24/08 ADOPTED! 11/8/08 LOCATED IN CASHIERS, NC Sallie was found wandering recently around Gorges State Park in Transylvania County, NC with a piece of retractable lead attached to an old collar. She is around 2 years old, playful, affectionate, and willing to please. Sallie is housebroken and gets on very well with the two male dogs in my household in Cashiers, NC. She knows "sit" and "drop" and is learning to walk on a leash with the other dogs.

This petite blue Weim -- 56 pounds -- is scheduled to be spayed, slightly HW positive and up-to-date now on all vaccinations and rabies shots.

47     11/21/08 ADOPTED! 11/14/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  "Whisper"  is a pretty grey girl and was dumped at the Beaufort Animal Shelter. She is approximately 12 months old, spayed, HW negative, and all vaccinations up to date.  She is a very friendly, very sweet girl and  gets along well with other dogs.  Whisper is very playful and craves attention.

Update:  Whisper is progressing well.  She is more confident and is learning not to jump up.  She is learning to retrieve a ball and is an adorable young girl!  She LOVES to play ball!

Her adoption fee is $250.

46   11/20/08 ADOPTED! 8/30/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Lucy" was picked up as a stray in the upstate and no one claimed her.  She is a grey, female, estimated to be approx. 3 yrs old,  heartworm negative, spayed and up to date on her vaccines.  She is  a very sweet, gentle and very shy girl, housebroken, crate broken and gets along with cats, dogs, horses, kids.   Lucy is quiet, laid back and a wonderful house dog. Although quite timid, she will make someone a wonderful family member.

45    11/8/08 ADOPTED! 10/3/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC "DEEDEE"  is an approximately 4 yr old, grey spayed female. All shots up to date and heartworm negative.  We believe she has had a hard past life and likely mistreated.

Deedee is a sweetheart, LOVES to cuddle, carry her stuffed toys around, and  is a VERY calm, nice girl who will make a wonderful pet for a loving family.   Although  she is very quiet in the house and not much of a barker, she will bark at anything suspicious outside so she is a good watch dog too.  She is very obedient, wants to please, is a great house dog and is SO thankful to have a nice bed, toys, good food and people to hug and pet her.   She loves to be petted and is such a pleasure to have in the house.   We will have a hard time giving her up!

Deedee did tree a possum in our yard, so probably no cats.

Please find Deedee a loving home!

44    11/7/08 ADOPTED!  10/19/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Quincy" is an approximate 3-4 yr old male who was abandoned when his family was evicted from a foreclosure on their house.  A kind neighbor bought him for $50 and donated him to our Rescue Program.  He is a large, very handsome, friendly male weighing approximately 85 lbs.  He is very playful and exuberant.  He should go to a family who will take him to obedience classes.  Quincy loves to fetch a ball and loves to swim!  He retrieves well from land and water.  He plays well with our female dogs of all breeds.

Quincy has been neutered and is Heartworm negative, he is up to date on all vaccines.  He will do well with an active family who can jog or hike with him.  So far, he does not seem to have any bad habits such as digging, jumping fences or barking.

43  11/4/08 ADOPTED! 8/19/08 LOCATED IN WAYNESBORO, GEORGIA.  Savannah is our 4 year old loving female.  She is up to date on all of her shots, has been on heart-guard since required, and was just spayed on 08/14/08. This is a very somber time for me and my husband, but we feel that it may be in the best interest for Savannah. We have another Weim, Sallie. We refer to the two as "our girls". We started out with an underground fence that they figured out.  She likes to get out and run and play.   We just cannot seem to keep her in our yard.

This why we must give her up.

Savannah needs a family with people who stay at home and will give her the attention she loves.  Or, this girl needs someone to jog with, walk with, hike with, swim with and let her be the active girl she wants to be!

Savannah is being fostered by her owners.

42 10/25/08 ADOPTED! 10/15/08 LOCATED IN  ANDERSON, SC (NEAR GREENVILLE) Jackson  is  3 1/2 years old  neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and up-to-date on all shots.  He weighs about  85lbs and is  tall  & lean. He LOVES to be outside, but only to play....he is a total inside, cuddling, couch potato Weimaraner!  He also loves to play fetch (with anything...even pine cones), go on walks, jogs and any activities outside where he can be with his owner.  He is always happy and ready to love and be loved!  He is completely house trained, but like most Weims will counter surf and trash can dive if given the opportunity.  He was crate trained as a puppy but has been free to roam when left home alone for the last 1 1/2 years, but still feels safe in his crate if he needs to be there.  He is good with other dogs but better with females, and has no issues with cats.  He needs a fenced in yard with lots of room and time to play daily, he also loves lots of attention! He will sit, speak, lay, roll over and shake for anything edible...especially banana and peanut butter!

Jackson's owners had to move and could not take him.  They are broken hearted and want to find a wonderful home for him.

41   10/20/08 ADOPTED! 10/6/08 LOCATED IN HILTON HEAD, SC Heidi  is a  3 yr old female.  This girl was living in Olar, South Carolina.  She lived in a pen in the back yard.  She is very shy.  She likes other dogs and does not appear to be cat aggressive.  After working with her for three days she will come to me.  I have been working on teaching her some simple manners.  She is learning to walk on a leash and to sit.  She is very sweet.  She has been spayed and is heartworm negative.  I hope with the right family who understands her, she can enjoy the life she deserves. In 10 days Heidi has come a long way!  She will now put her head in my lap and wags her tail when I put her leash on.  In order for her to finish her healing, she needs a home!  I can only give her one hour a day and she needs more.  She is gentle and loves other animals.  Can anyone find it in their heart to open their home to this sweet girl?

40  10/19/08 ADOPTED!! 9/19/07 LOCATED BETWEEN GREENVILLE & SPARTANBURG:  "Harry" is approx. 7 years old, Gray, Neutered, sweet natured house dog. Current on all shots, and on heartworm prevention. He is housebroken, crate-trained.  He is fine with children,  but he will chase cats. Harry's type of home would be someone with  a big yard so he could run and play outside during the day and be a housedog  at night or someone who can play with him or can take him for walks/runs regularly.  Harry would be great for an active family who can give him exercise, obedience training and attention. Harry is being fostered by his owner. Please consider giving Harry a good home.

39 10/18/08 ADOPTED! 10/10/08 LOCATED NEAR COLUMBIA, SC "Bishop" is a sweet male Weimaraner born November 2005. He is a very happy boy with fantastic joyful exhuberance. He loves his toys and especially loves to suck on his teddy bear (see photo).  He is neutered and heartworm
negative.  He seems to love the water and love people.  And he really likes to lay on your lap on the couch!  Bishop will need obedience training to
learn to walk well on a lead but his great attitude should make training a pleasure.

38 10/8/08 ADOPTED! 10/6/08 LOCATED IN HILTON HEAD, SC Winston is a neutered male 5 years old.  He has also been living in a pen on Olar, SC.  He was lucky enough to have had a year in another home in the beginning of his life and is better socialized than Heidi.  He likes people and other dogs.  He is like a bull in a china shop at present.  He is being taught to walk on a leash, sit, down and come when called.  Winston is overweight and has been put on a diet.  He will make someone a great companion

37   10/5/08 ADOPTED! 8/20/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC. However, her previous owners were elderly and could  keep up with her.   They were broken hearted to have to give her up. Bella is a BEAUTIFUL girl!  It would be wonderful to take her to obedience classes.  She likes to play with other dogs.  She will make someone a wonderful family member.  Please consider giving Bella a forever home. Her adoption fee is $250.

36 10/1/08 ADOPTED!  9/21/08 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC (On the border between NC/SC about 25 min north of Spartanburg)

Name: BocaAge: 11  months Weight: 89 lbs

Boca is an energetic puppy who is a quick learner. He has a very sweet personality. He is learning to ride in the car, heel and walk nicely on a leash. He gets along well with other dogs and is relatively gentle for a big puppy. He is a bit clumsy so would not recommend him for families with small children. Boca loves to run on trails.  He is housebroken but has not had to opportunity to run free in the house  without supervision. During the day he stays in a dog run because he strongly dislikes being in a crate. Boca has not been with cats but believe that with a little training he would be fine. Boca needs someone who is going to spend time working with him. Previous Weim ownership is a plus. This is not the kind of dog you get that is going to be perfect immediately. He is a PUPPY! He deserves a family that will exercise him and love him.

Boca has been neutered, heartworm tested (negative) and updated on all his shots.

32 9/22/08 ADOPTED!! 8/25/08 LOCATED IN FLORENCE, SC Barney is a very sweet, grey  boy about 18 months old. He loves to play with other dogs, male and female. I have not found anyone he does not like, adults or children, with the exception of Cats. He will need to go to a home with no cats. He came to me from Second Chance Rescue. Second Chance found him in a very bad situation (covered in fleas and ticks etc.). We will not go into the etc. part it is too heartbreaking.  He was found to have Lyme Disease and is Heart worm positive. He has been treated and recovered from the Lyme Disease.  He was started on the heart worm treatment this weekend.  (Barney is the companion to Pebbles; they were both seized by Animal control for neglect and were in horrible shape).

Barney is a sweet adorable boy; he is neutered and housebroken - he goes  to the door to indicate he wants to go outside, but you have watch for it. He just craves affection; poor little guy, I don't think he has had that before. It is amazing how he came from such a bad situation and can still be so friendly and loving. He will be a great addition to a loving family.

PLEASE find a forever loving home for this sweet little guy!

31 9/21/08 ADOPTED!  8/18/08 LOCATED IN SENECA, SC. My name is Rosie, I am a young ~ 14 month old Weimaraner female. I was rescued from the Greenville Humane Society by the Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club. I was a frightened young girl, very malnourished, skin and bones and with a raging skin infection from fleas and poor nutrition. I had been living on the streets for too long!

I am now spayed and up-to-date on all vaccinations, have put on some weight, and my coat is getting thick and shiny.

I have adapted to my foster home and family. I get  along well with another Weimaraner in my foster home, Campbell, and a terrier/hound mix, Zac. We all share toys and beds. I am lease trained, and learning some basic obedience. I enjoy rides in the car, chasing squirrels in the backyard, going on walks in the neighborhood, and giving cuddles and kisses. I get on very well with children and other dogs (but not cats). I have moved from a wild, street dog to a gentle, family dog, Plus, I think I would be great at hunting and tracking with some training. I am a very sweet, loving girl looking for a family to love me in return.

My adoption fee through the Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club is $250, and that includes spaying, microchipping, and all vaccinations and any medications to date.

Please give me a forever home!

30 9/14//08 ADOPTED! 8/17/08 LOCATED BETWEEN COLUMBIA AND AIKEN, SC. Blue is an approximately 20 month old male. He was found running with two other Weims when picked up by Lexington Animal Control. He is neutered and has had all his vaccines. He is heartworm positive but under treatment. Blue is extremely sweet. His main goal in life is to please humans. He has the usual amount of energy for a 20 month old Weim but it is easily controlled with verbal commands due to his pleasing nature. He is good with other dogs. He would probably chase cats, however, (if they run from dogs) due to his love to chase things that roll or run. He is housebroken. He does not seem to jump up on people so far. He just sits at your feet and looks up at you with eyes begging to be loved.

29 9/5/08 ADOPTED! LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.  "Pebbles" (we named her) is an adorable probably 16-18 month old grey female.  She was seized along with a male companion (Barney above) - likely her litterbrother - by Animal Control and taken to the Second Chance Rescue in Florence, SC because they were being badly neglected (both were starving).  The low life stated  "they don't need nothin' but a chain, water and a food bowl. " Sigh..... In spite of her sad previous life, Pebbles is very loving, friendly and once we get her in good shape, she will be just beautiful!  Her eyes are almost blue.  She is very underweight (46 lbs) and needs good nutrition. She is a small female, friendly, affectionate, happy girl who loves everybody.   She learned to swim and retrieves from our pond,  she points,  loves to retrieve a ball or toy and enjoys her rawhide chews. Amazingly, Pebbles will now swim over 30 yards in the pond and retrieve a dummy to hand!  She will make a fantastic dog for some lucky family!!

Update 8/28: Pebbles has been to the vet,  now weighs 53 lbs, has been vaccinated, is HW negative and in good health. She is in heat now and will be spayed afterwards.   She comes when called, sits on command, is crate trained, & housebroken.  She would make a great Agility dog.

28 8/25/08 ADOPTED! 7/30/08 LOCATED IN THE ATLANTA, GA AREA. Emma is a   7 yr old, spayed, wonderful family dog whose family must move to the Middle East and she cannot go with them.  They are broken hearted but must find another home for her.  Here is her information:

27  ADOPTED! 8/8/08.  BONNIE is now Grayce.  She was adopted by Jerry Jester and his family in Augusta, GA

26 7/30/08 ADOPTED!   7/27/08  LOCATED IN SIMPSONVILLE, SC.  "BAILEY" is an adorable 14 wk old Blue, intact male puppy.  He was abandoned at a trailer park when the owners were evicted.  The owner of the trailer park called us and he was taken into our rescue program.  He is healthy, with an excellent temperament.

25  7/11/08 ADOPTED! 7/6/08 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC (NEAR GREENVILLE, ASHEVILLE) Duke is a 4 year old blue Weim. He came to me 3 years ago with mange, starving and with heart worms. He has since undergone treatment for the heartworm and mange and is a beautiful healthy dog with wonderful manners. He is a gentleman’s dog. He is very obedient and heels nicely on and off the leash. He enjoys running and has a special talent for hunting turtles. Yes, he sniffs out turtles and brings them to me without injuring them. He is currently living with 6 other Weims which he does ok with but in a perfect world he would be an only dog. He loves going for walks and playing ball. He stays outside in a fenced in area or in a dog run during the day and sleeps inside in a crate at night.

Duke came to me from Arkansas. A woman there had passed away and had left 14 dogs behind. Supposedly her boyfriend was talking care of them but based on Duke’s behavior upon arrival he had been abused.  Because of this I think Duke would do best in a family with no children or older children because he does tend to get scared easily. Duke would make someone a wonderful friend because he wants nothing more to please and be loved. The right family for Duke is a must. While I love this dog I have recued and rehabilitated him to the best of my ability. It is time for him to have a family and for me to make room for another.

Duke is up to date on Shots, heartworm prevention and Advantage Plus24 7/8/08 ADOPTED!! 7/6/08 LOCATED IN TRYON, NC (NEAR GREENVILLE, ASHEVILLE) Smokey is a 2 year old neutered male. He is about 100 lbs of pure love and happiness. He is very energetic and is a wonderful running partner (3-6 miles). He heels nicely off the leash but will also walk nicely on the lead. He has had basic obedience training and loves to jump agility jumps or horse jumps (more his size). He is house broken and will “go to bed” on command but he gets excited when initially let into the house. He is crate trained where he sleeps at night and stays inside a fence in the yard during the day without a problem. He is a little clumsy but is very  sweet. Like most Weims he is strong willed and will need an owner who can command respect.

Smokey’s owner died almost a year ago and he was inherited by her son who boarded him in a kennel where is was kept in a crate with no walks or exercise for 3 weeks before I rescued him. He had literally chewed his tail off and had to undergo surgery to cover the exposed bone. He still nips at it when he is nervous but it has healed nicely. He has been in my care for 7 months living with 6 other Weims. He is at an age where he needs to bond with someone. He is a wonderful, sweet dog who needs a Weim savvy family to give him the love and attention he deserves.

He is up to date on shots and is on heartworm protection and Advantage Plus.

Home must have fenced in yard, time to exercise and love to give. I will keep Smokey until I find him the home he deserves. References will be required and checked.

23   ADOPTED 7/5/08! 5/14/08 LOCATED IN SENECA, SC  HISTORY : "ROSIE" (previously "EUROPA") A PITIFUL 1 YR OLD FEMALE PUPPY, HW POS AND IN BAD SHAPE  found as a stray and obtained from the Greenville County Animal Shelter. We have her now in her foster home with Cassie Welsh in Seneca, SC.  Initial evaluation: She is spayed.  She is a sweet, frightened, young bitch, with a raging skin infection and very malnourished.   Cassie will be taking her to her vet for analysis and hopefully, with good food, meds and TLC she will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. Photos will be posted as soon as she is in better shape.

5/22 Update: Rosie is really sweet and loves to play with other dogs.  She has been treated for her skin & flea infections andher coat is clearing up;
she is up to date on vaccines and is being treated for HW.  Currently, she tries to jump or climb fences  to get with her "person" but this is being resolved.

5/29: Update: Rosie is a happy, affectionate young bitch who is adapting to her foster home and family. She gets on well with my Weim, Campbell and terrier mix  Zac, and they all share toys and beds. Rosie is gaining weight, getting used to a leash, collar and check chain, and learning some basic obedience and manners. She enjoys rides in the car, chasing squirrels in the backyard, going on walks in the neighborhood, and giving cuddles and kisses. Everyone who meets her comments on her friendly temperament and beauty (despite her somewhat patchy coat at this time). We are working on changing her from a wild, street dog to a gentle, family dog.  She will make someone a wonderful dog!

6/20/08: Update: she is housebroken, much better behaved indoors, very social on our walks and visits, good with kids and adults and other dogs, and so sweet and loving and loyal.  Stays in my yard and is happy to be at home. Not scared of noises, thunder etc. She is not good with cats and squirrels (we do a lot of 'leave its' on our walks and don't move forward until she is under control), but displays some good hunting traits if there is anyone out there willing to put in the training with her.

22        ADOPTED!!   4/5/08 LOCATED IN PALATKA, FL  "SAMMY" is a medium sized, neutered male, appears to be approximately 2 yrs old and was pulled from the Greenville County Animal Shelter euthanasia list on the day he was to be put to death!  Thanks to our team of rescue ladies, we were able to save his life and start him on the way to a loving home.  He is a friendly, sweet natured dog and does not seem to have any bad habits.  He has had all vaccines, is heartworm negative.  We will be trying to put some weight on him, and give him a little obedience training. Sammy will make a  really nice companion for a fortunate family!

21   6/8/08 ADOPTED! 4/10/08 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC. APRIL is approximately 2 yrs old, spayed female.  She is a sweet, good natured girl.  She needs further obedience training, but is housebroken and plays well with other dogs.  She is up to date on vaccinations and will make someone a very nice family pet.  Here is her foster home's assessment by Russ Smith:

April and my Weim Apache are getting along great – playing like brother and sister.  She loves following him everywhere. April also loves to chase squirrels out of the yard.  She has basic obedient knowledge.  I am happy to say that she is now sleeping in the crate beside my bed.  This is a wonderful girl!! April is very friendly and loves to play with other dogs. The ideal home would have a large fenced in yard, for her to run and play.  Another dog as a companion (large breed) for her to play with would be wonderful.  Also, she does have strong hunting instincts.

20   5/27/08 ADOPTED!   3/10/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC LINDY is a approx. 4 year bitch who was found wandering in a starved condition in Bryan County near Pembroke, GA. . She was obviously bred many times and then dumped  by her low life owner when she could no longer produce puppies.  She was heartworm positive but has been treated; so now she only needs the normal monthly heartworm medication. With TLC, good food and exercise, Lindy has gained weight and her new coat is shining through from her near starvation.

This is a great dog! She is very affectionate, LOVES attention and to be petted.  She loves kids.  Her tails wags all the time and she is very smart.  She likes to retrieve toys or balls and gets along  with the other Weims and other breeds.   Lindy will make someone an excellent housedog and family member.  She is house broken and crate trained.

Lindy is spayed and is available for adoption.   She would do best  in a home with no cats and with a family who can give her a lot of attention.

5/29/08 ADOPTED!  5/5/08  LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC  "LORI" is a 4 yr old, spayed, medium sized female.  She was turned in by her owner  in Myrtle Beach, SC due to various family problems.  She is in good health, up to date on vaccines, friendly, heartworm negative, house trained, leash trained and well cared for.   She gets along with other dogs.  Probably not cats. She would make someone a wonderful house dog.

5/30/08 ADOPTED! 5/20/08 LOCATED IN ANDERSON, SC "Max" is a very sweet,  7 yr old, neutered Blue male,  HW negative, well cared for and had to be given up by his owner.  He gets along well with other dogs, is a playful, happy dog who will make someone a great family member.  Max has a strong hunting instinct, and is happiest when with you or with the other dogs. We took him to the lake and he spotted a bird and sprinted after it. You can hardly tell he is 7 years old! He loved the lake and swam in the water after our labs. He was
happy following them in the water and running back and forth on the deck with us. He listens great and knows sit and come. He also rides well in the car. He was very good at night, going to bed when we did and getting up with our other dogs this morning, having no accidents in the house. He was so excited to be able to go back outside this morning and was running around collecting all the balls.

He is just a great dog and has a lot of love to give to his "people".  Please find this wonderful guy a forever home!!

ADOPTED 5/23/08! 5/19/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC  Chelios is a four year old, neutered grey Weimaraner that needs a loving home.  Chelios stands proud at 118lbs. and is a big "lap" dog.  He is wonderful with children.  He sleeps with my 4yr old nephew.  I am a traveling nurse, and have to move.  I can't take him with me, and it's almost like losing a child.  He is very loving and is very protective of his owner.  He does not like cats, but loves other dogs.  He is trained well and is house broken.  He walks well on a leash, and loves to play frisbee.  He knows commands, and has even been trained some in hunting.  He is a purebred Weimaraner.  I  have had him since he was 6wks. old.  He was flown in from a Kennel in Kentucky as a Christmas gift.  He will definitely win your heart.  Up to date on all shots.  Please contact me with any questions. I will not ship him to another state.
I want to place him with a local family so that I know he will be loved and well taken care of.

Blue came from a home with small children.  He is not an alpha dog.  He walks well on a leash, and takes food gently from your hand.  I have not tried putting him in a crate, I do not have one.  He is very affectionate and would make someone a wonderful companion.  He is looking for forever home.  I will be willing to help deliver him to his new home. Thanks so much.

ADOPTED 5/2/08! "CHUCK" is a approx 9 month old male found running with the wrong crowd and was picked up for chasing cattle near Savannah, GA.  He is HW positive but so adorable that his foster home, Barbara Glover decided to keep him!  He has been neutered and is on his way to obedience, tracking, agility, and lots of fun with Barbara and her family.

5/11/08 ADOPTED! 4/20/08  LOCATED IN CAYCE, SC  "CRICKET" is an approx. 3 yr old female Weim stray who was found helping another female mix take care of her litter of puppies in Greenville, SC.

This is an absolutely gorgeous girl! She obviously has lived in a house before.  She
feels that any piece of furniture good enough for you is good enough for her.  She is house trained and shows very good manners.  She  doesn't jump up on people. She is very compatible with my Jack Russell
mix and my Weimaraner, and has showed no aggression to them.  She even bumps into my Weim when the two are chasing after a ball.

Cricket loves to play with other dogs.

She has a very cooperative personality.  She competes for a ball with my dog without any aggression.    She comes to me and sits.  She is very sweet overall.  You can pet her and touch her while she is eating with her showing no concern.  She will allow  me to manipulate her feet.     She is calmer than my 4 yo male.  She is  not a swimmer.  She walks well on a leash.

Cricket has been spayed and is ready for adoption.  She is HW positive but will be treated with monthly Ivermectin.

4/29/08 ADOPTED BY LARRY & ELAINE WILLIAMS! "Shelby" an 8 month old puppy bitch, was received into our Rescue program  mid April by a concerned fellow in Florence, SC who noted she was being neglected and abused by her irresponsible owner.  She was at first shy and afraid, but with help from Melissa Harley, Shelby was found to be a wonderful, sweet,  well behaved 8 month old girl.  She has now been renamed Zoe and is being adored by the Williams family in Columbia, SC

4/16/08 ADOPTED BY DANIELLE CONSENTI. 4/4/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC"DUNES"  appears to be approximately 1 yr old.  He was taken to the Charleston shelter where we took him in our foster program.   He is really a lovely, light silver grey boy.  "Mr. Happy"  is very friendly, happy and lovable. His tail wags his whole body!  He has all shots and is Heartworm positive.  Currently, he is undergoing HW treatment (note shaved spots on his back) and must be confined for 3 wks during which time I will try to get some weight on him.  After 4/25 he will be able to play as a normal youngster.  He would benefit from obedience classes just so he can learn and bond with his lucky family!   He is willing to please, does not seem to have any bad habits.

4/10/08 ADOPTED! 3/26/08 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC AREA. "Dietrich", a VERY handsome, 8-month old Weimaraner, is a very typical Weim puppy.  He was turned into the Florence shelter because his family was having domestic problems and the wife insisted that the dog must go.   His inside behavior is calmer than his outside behavior, again typical and a good thing.  When he gets puppy-silly inside, it is easily redirected to toys.  He does not bother people who are eating dinner at the table.  He enjoys lying on the couch.  He knows how to “sit.”  He rides well in a crate in the car.  I believe that it is likely that in his previous home, he was stuck out in the backyard and ignored which would have caused much more unacceptable behavior resulting in his predicament.   He is extremely sweet and has a great level of confidence. He does not appear to have suffered any abuse.  He would excel at agility training as he is not afraid to go under the couch to retrieve a ball.   He has such great potential to make someone a lifelong companion.

4/4/08 ADOPTED BY RANDY & HEATHER SWINGLE.  3/26/07 BELLA is about 5 yrs old, spayed.  She was one of 2 dogs dumpted at the Charleston Shelter.  She has all her shots, is HW negative, loves to play ball, swim and retrieve.

Mike is a very handsome, medium sized, neutered, Blue male.  He has had obedience training and is fine in a crate.  He knows sit, stay, and fetch.  He retrieves and swims well!  This is a really happy little guy whose tail wags all the time and loves to be petted.   He is playful and gets along well with our other Weimaraners and other breeds.  He will make someone an excellent family member. He appears to have good hunting instincts and should make a good gun dog. He seems to love kids.  Probably not for cats.  He would be really happy with a family to give him training, attention, love,  with a fenced in yard  & another dog to play with. He is very energetic and would do best in an active home with owners who can jog or play with him a lot.

3/31/08 ADOPTED! 3/28/08  LOCATED IN STATESBORO, GA Owner wishes to place a nice young Blue girl:

My sweet pup, Darma Dear, is about 15 months old.  She is a blue, very smart, well socialized, good with children and cats, and just needs so much more than we can give her.  My husband found her when she was a puppy wandering in the woods and we knew nothing of the breed.  We have 3 small children and since the baby was born, she just seems depressed.  It breaks my heart.  My husband works long hours and we cannot give her the time, love, and exercise she deserves.  I would love to find a family that would appreciate her.  She has been spayed, is current on her vaccinations, and is on heartworm preventative medication.  We live in Statesboro, GA

"SPARTAN"  is about 3-4 yrs old.  He was picked up as a stray by the Spartanburg Animal Shelter.  He is heartworm positive.  He has been neutered and is up to date on his vaccines.  It is evident that he has had a hard life, and apparently abused.  He was sick and a rack of bones when we got him.  We are rehabilitating him, he is now in good weight and he is coming along nicely.  He feels much better, is very happy and playful.  He loves to retrieve toys and balls. Spartan seems so grateful for a warm bed, good food, clean water and attention.  He is very friendly, plays well with females and neutered males.  He is food aggressive with other dogs.  Cats unknown; but probably would not be good.  He will make an excellent gun dog as he knows about quail and has a staunch point.   Please consider giving Spartan a loving  permanent home. Contact Elena Lamberson eslamberson@msn.com or 843-559-3938

1/26/08 ADOPTED! 1/24/08 LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC.."JAKE" is about 18 months old and one of the most handsome Weims we have ever had in our rescue program.  He is just gorgeous!  Light silver grey, beautiful face.  He needs to go to obedience class.  He is  friendly, a good house dog, playful with other dogs.  Don't know about cats.

1/5/08 ADOPTED!  New name is "Jackson."12/23/07 LOCATED IN COLUMBIA, SC YULE is a Blue  neutered male puppy possibly as young as 6 months old. He is heartworm negative.  He was found as a stray and taken to the Spartanburg shelter (these pictures came from the shelter).  No one claimed him so they contacted our club, we had him neutered and he was picked up by GCWC club member, Merry Woodham who drove up from Columbia to get him.  Merry says he is really thin, but very cute and a playful puppy.  She is trying to put weight on him.  She named him Yule for the Christmas Season.   Yule gets along with her older bitch, Savana.  She is currently leash  and crate training him.  He is doing well in the house.  He will make someone a wonderful pet but must be taken to obedience class.  His adoption fee is $250

1/3/08 ADOPTED! 12/13/07 LOCATED IN SUMMERVILLE, SC  MISTY, an 18 month old female Weimaraner, was found wandering the neighborhood on 12/10 and was taken in by Meghan in because she was afraid she might get hit by a car.  On 12/13, her owners  were found who were just a few houses down.  She had escaped from her kennel in the back yard where she spent most of her time.  The owners decided that they couldn't give her everything that she needs and handed her over to Meghan.    Here is her report:

She's a super sweet girl who loves to have fun.  She's been thoroughly enjoying her daily walks and playing with my two dogs.  She's learning very quickly how to walk correctly on a leash  She needs occasional corrections, but she's a fast learner.  Though she has never been an inside dog, she has been living in my house this past week and has been great.  She hasn't had any accidents.  She likes to chew on bones and toys, but has, so far, kept her mouth away from the furniture.  According to Missy's owners, she was born in June of '06, so she is approximately 1 1/2 years old.  She is not spayed and recently had a litter.  She does have a slight birth defect: her left eyelid doesn't close, so she has to use her inner eyelid for blinking.

Missy loves people and dogs and just enjoys having attention.  She would be a great fit with someone who can take her on frequent walks and with someone who has another dog she can bond and play with.

Rescue Weimaraners make absolutely wonderful pets!  They seem so happy to have a loving home.  We carefully screen our rescue dogs and  offer for adoption only those who will fit into a family situation.

GCWC has had an active Weimaraner Rescue Program for many years.  Our Rescue people  have done a fabulous job rescuing and placing Weimaraners who have lost their homes.  Most of our fund raising efforts go to our Rescue Program (see Gifts)

We are always in need of homes to foster rescue Weimaraners until a suitable home can be found.

The Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club Rescue Program was established in 1987 when our first Weim was “rescued” and place in a new home

Purpose
The purpose of the Greater Charleston Weimaraner Club Rescue Program is to take Weims in need of homes, rehabilitate them, and find loving new homes for these wonderful dogs.

Goal
Our goal is to give as many lost, neglected and abandoned Weims as possible a second chance at a good life.

Where do Rescued Weims come from?
Often through no fault of their own, Weimaraners are turned over to us because of lifestyle changes of their owners.  The owners divorce, move to an apartment, have a baby, etc. and can no longer care for their Weimaraner. Also animal shelters throughout the state receive Weimaraners for various reasons also.  These shelters know of our Rescue Program and call us when they get a Weimaraner. Sometimes Weims are found running loose and are turned over to us.

Why adopt an adult dog?
Weimaraner puppies, as cute as they are, are notorious for causing havoc as they go through the housebreaking, chewing, and basic learning stages.

Rescued Weims make wonderful companions. They seem grateful for a new life.

How do I adopt a Weimaraner?
In order to adopt a dog from our Rescue Program, an adoption application must be completed.  This application can be found on our website under the Rescue Section.  .

How long does it take to adopt a Weimaraner?
The length of the adoption process depends on the availability of dogs in our Rescue Program that meet your particular needs.

Some Rescue dogs are placed within weeks of being received in our program. Others stay in the program for months as they recover from previous neglect or abuse.  Whatever time the dog needs to be rehabilitated is determined by the individual dog.

Cost of adopting a Weimaraner
A donation of $250 is requested for each adopted Weimaraner.
